MELBOURNE - Jul 9/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for the Southeast Gulf, far northern parts of the Northeast Gulf, and for waters between Torres Strait and Cape Tribulation. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow-moving high pressure system to the southwest of Western Australia extends a ridge through central Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Isolated showers about the far northeast coast. Fine otherwise. Early morning frost about the southern and central interior. Light to moderate SE to SW winds, fresh about the northern coasts. Forecast for Monday The high will move into South Australia with the ridge persisting through southern Queensland with lighter winds. Isolated showers in the northeast tropics, dry over the remainder of the state. Chilly over the interior in the morning with widespread early frost. Strong SE winds continuing in the southern Gulf in the morning and about the northeast tropics. Forecast for Tuesday The high continues to weaken and move further east into South Australia. High cloud increases from the west over the Channel Country, increasing morning temperatures and contracting the early frost to the eastern half of the state. Showers continuing to build over the northeast tropics and developing southwards about the exposed central coast. Strong SE winds remaining over the northeast tropics. Forecast for Wednesday The southern high weakens while remaining slow moving. Showers increasing about the central and northeast tropical coast. Increasing high cloud across southern districts with little to no rain in the southwest. Early frost contracting to the southeast interior. Strong winds persisting over the northeast tropics. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The southern high moves slowly towards the SE while intensifying slightly, and pushing into the Tasman Sea on Friday. An upper trough moves into Queensland from the west, increasing cloud and extending rain areas from the west. Rain areas and scattered showers reaching eastern districts late Friday into Saturday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
