Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 9/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for southeast Gulf
Waters and for far northern parts of Northeast Gulf Waters. A Strong Wind
Warning is also current for coastal waters between Torres Strait and Cape
Tribulation.

Weather Situation
A slow-moving high pressure system to the southwest of Western Australia
extends a ridge through central Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers developing about the northeast tropical coast overnight
otherwise dry over the remainder of the state. Fresh to strong SE winds across
the tropics. Light to moderate SE to SW winds about the rest of the east coast.
Light to moderate SW to SE winds over the interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will move into the western Great Australian Bight and maintain a
firm ridge over southern Queensland. . Strong SE winds to continue over the
tropics. Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast, dry over the
remainder of the state. Chilly over the interior in the morning with widespread
early frost.
Forecast for Monday
The high will move into South Australia with the ridge persisting through
southern Queensland with lighter winds. Isolated showers in the northeast
tropics, dry over the remainder of the state. Again chilly over the interior in
the morning with widespread early frost. Strong SE winds continuing in the
southern Gulf in the morning and about the northeast tropics.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high continues to weaken and move further east into South Australia. High
cloud increases from the west over the Channel Country from the previous night
and this will raise surface temperatures and contract the early frost to the
eastern half of the state. Showers continuing to build over the northeast
tropics and now developing southwards about the exposed central coast. Strong SE
winds remaining over the northeast tropics.
Forecast for Wednesday
The southern high weakening and is positioned over N.S.W now with a weakening
ridge over southern Queensland. Showers increasing about the central and
northeast tropical coast. Increasing high cloud across southern districts with
no rain. Early frost contracting to the southeast interior. Strong winds
persisting over the northeast tropics.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Thursday, the southern high moves into eastern N.S.W,  rain areas now
developing in the west as an upper level trough approaches. Showers occurring
about most of the east coast now. Early frost contracted to the Darling Downs.
Friday, rain areas clearing the far west but extending across the central
interior. Showers continuing about the east coast. Saturday, the upper level
trough moving through western districts with clearing weather. Rain areas over
the eastern interior and spreading towards the east coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
