Weather Situation
A slow-moving high pressure system to the southwest of Western Australia
extends a ridge through central Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Strong SE winds about the tropical coast north of Cape Tribulation, the far
northern Gulf, and in the southern Gulf during the morning. Very isolated
showers about the northeast coast but fine and cool for the remainder. Early
morning fogs about the Capricornia, Central Coast and Herbert and Lower Burdekin
districts. Widespread early frost about most of the interior, including into the
southern tropics. Moderate SE to SW winds across most inland parts, fresh at
times in the tropics.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will move into the western Great Australian Bight and maintain a
firm ridge over southern Queensland and the east coast. Strong SE winds about
the tropical coast north of Cape Tribulation, the far northern Gulf, and in the
southern Gulf during the morning. Very isolated showers about the northeast
coast with fine and cool conditions elsewhere. Widespread early frost over most
of the interior extending into the tropical highlands and into the far west and
northwest of the state.
Forecast for Monday
The high will continue to move slowly east into South Australia. The firm
ridge along the east coast will maintain strong SE winds over the northeast
tropical coast and over far northern Gulf. Strong winds should ease in the
southeast Gulf after the morning peak. Very isolated showers about the far
northeast coast with fine and cool conditions elsewhere. Widespread early frost
over most of the interior extending into the tropical highlands and into the far
west, but easing in the northwest of the state.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will continue to move east across southeastern Australia. Strong SE
winds to continue over the northeast tropical coast and far northern Gulf.
Isolated showers about the far northeast coast with fine and cool conditions
elsewhere. Widespread early frost over much of the interior extending into the
southern tropics.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The high should move further east during the outlook period to become centred
over southern New South Wales by Thursday before moving into the Tasman Sea on
Friday. This is likely to maintain strong SE winds about the northeast tropical
coast and the far northern Gulf. Increasing shower activity about the northeast
coast, extending to the Central Coast from Thursday as the wind flow becomes
more easterly. An upper trough may approach the southwest of the state on
Thursday bringing increasing cloud and possible rain areas to the western and
northern Queensland, moving towards the tropical coast on Friday. Widespread
early frosts are likely to continue about large parts of the southern and
eastern interior on Wednesday but should become very isolated by Thursday as
cloud spreads to the east.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
