MELBOURNE - Jul 8/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A vigorous west to southwesterly airstream persists over Bass Strait and waters south of eastern Australia while the next high pressure system is southwest of Western Australia. An active cold front embedded in this airflow will move across southern Victoria on Sunday. The high pressure system will then move slowly eastwards across the Bight towards Adelaide on Monday while another cold front is likely to cross Tasmania Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers over most southern and mountain areas, although mostly fine in East Gippsland. The chance of light showers in the northwest also. Snowfalls above 1200 metres. Cool to cold and mostly cloudy with moderate to fresh westerly winds, stronger about the coast.Sunday 10 JulyScattered showers over southern and mountain areas, extending to the northern inland and becoming widespread about the coast and east ranges during the afternoon. Snow on the Alps. Cold with fresh to strong west to northwest winds, reaching gale force about the coast and shifting southwesterly during the day.Monday 11 JulyMorning frost patches in the northeast. Isolated showers on and south of the ranges, mostly fine over the northern plains just the chance of afternoon showers in the far northwest. Cold with fresh and gusty southwest winds, strong at first in the southeast.Tuesday 12 JulyIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, mainly near the coast and northeast ranges. The chance of showers inland during the afternoon.
