Waters and for coastal waters between Torres Strait to Cape Tribulation and
between Double Island Point and Point Danger, including Moreton Bay.

Weather Situation
A slow-moving high pressure system to the southwest of Western Australia
extends a ridge through central Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Very isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast, elsewhere fine.
Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds are expected over inland parts, tending fresh
and gusty over the southeast of the state with strong winds over southeastern
coastal waters. Strong SE winds are expected to develop about the northeast
tropical coast.
Forecast for Friday
Strong SE winds continuing about the tropical coast north of Cooktown, and in
the southern Gulf of Carpentaria during the morning. Early fog patches are
expected about parts of the central coast and Herbert and Lower Burdekin coasts.
Very isolated showers about the northeast coast. The remainder of the state will
remain dry and cool with widespread early frost across most of the interior,
extending further north over tropical highlands and further west. Moderate SW to
SW winds across most inland parts.
Forecast for Saturday
The ridge of high pressure will remain over central Queensland and weaken
slightly. Strong SE winds can be expected once again about the tropical coast,
extending to Cape Tribulation, the far northern Gulf, and in the southern Gulf
during the morning. Very isolated showers will persist about the northeast coast
but the remainder of the state will be fine and cool. Another widespread early
frost is expected about most of the interior, including into the tropics.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will move to the far southwest of the continent and maintain a firm
ridge over southern Queensland and the east coast. Strong SE winds will persist
about the tropical coast north of Cape Tribulation, the far northern Gulf, and
in the southern Gulf during the morning. Very isolated showers should continue
about the northeast coast with fine and cool conditions elsewhere. A widespread
early frost is expected over most of the interior extending into the tropical
highlands and into the far west and northwest of the state.
Forecast for Monday
The high will continue to move slowly east into the western Great Australian
Bight. The firm ridge along the east coast will maintain strong SE winds over
the northeast tropical coast and over far northern Gulf. Strong winds should
ease in the southeast Gulf after the morning peak. Very isolated showers should
continue about the northeast coast with fine and cool conditions elsewhere. A
widespread early frost is expected over most of the interior extending into the
tropical highlands and into the far west, but easing in the northwest of the
state.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high should move further east during the outlook period to become centred
over southern South Australia by Wednesday. This is likely to maintain strong SE
winds about the northeast tropical coast and the far northern Gulf. Isolated
showers will also persist about the northeast coast and extend further south
along the coast from Wednesday as the wind flow becomes more easterly. The
remainder of the state should remain dry on Tuesday. An upper trough may
approach the southwest of the state on Wednesday bringing increasing cloud and
possible rain areas to the west and southwest of the state, spreading to central
parts during Thursday. Widespread early frosts are likely to continue about
large parts of the interior but should contract to the to the eastern interior
by Wednesday as cloud spreads to the west.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
