Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 6/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for southeast Gulf
Waters.
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters between Torres Strait
and Cooktown
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters between Double Island
Point and Point Danger.
A Strong Wind Warnings has been issued for coastal waters betwen Torres Strait
and Cooktown

Weather Situation
A high pressure system to the southwest of Perth extends a ridge through
central Queensland. A dry surface trough will move through southern Queensland
on Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated light showers about the far northeast coast. Fine over the
remainder. Moderate to fresh W to SW winds in the south of the state, tending S
to SE in the north.
Forecast for Thursday
Fresh to strong W to SW winds developing over southeast waters. Strong SE
winds are expected over the southern Gulf in the morning and developing about
the northeast tropical coast. Very isolated showers are likely to continue about
the northeast coast but the remainder of the state should be fine with extensive
early frost over the southeast and southern interior.
Forecast for Friday
The ridge of high pressure should persist over central Queensland with strong
SE winds persisting about the tropical coast north of Cairns, the far northern
Gulf and in the southern Gulf during the morning. Very isolated showers will
continue about the northeast coast. The remainder of the state will remain dry
and cool with widespread early frost across most of the interior, extending
further north over tropical highlands and further west.
Forecast for Saturday
The ridge of high pressure will remain over central Queensland and weaken
only slightly. Strong SE winds can be expected once again about the tropical
coast north of Cairns, the far northern Gulf, and in the southern Gulf during
the morning. Very isolated showers about the northeast coast but the remainder
of the state will be fine and cool. Another widespread early frost is expected
about most of the interior, including into the tropics.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will move over the southern Great australian Bight and maintain a
firm ridge over southern Queensland and the east coast. Strong SE winds
persisting about the tropical coast north of Cairns, the far northern Gulf, and
in the southern Gulf during the morning. Very isolated showers about the
northeast coast, fine elsewhere though remaining cool. Widespread early frost
expected over most of the interior extending into the tropical highlands and
into the northwest and into the far west.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The ridge of high pressure should persist through southern parts of the state
and extend along the east coast. Strong SE winds continuing about the northeast
tropical coast and the far northern Gulf, whilst easing over the southern Gulf
from Monday afternoon. Isolated showers will also persist about the northeast
coast in the onshore flow whilst the remainder of the state will be dry and
cool. Widespread early frosts are likely to continue about large parts of the
interior.
