MELBOURNE - Jul 6/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front embedded in a vigorous southwesterly airstream is located over southwest Victoria and will move across the remainder of the state this evening and at night. More cold fronts are expected to affect southern Victoria and Bass Strait with one arriving Friday night and another front crossing the state on Sunday. A high pressure system will then move eastwards to ridge across the Bight. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers, widespread in the southwest and on the eastern ranges but isolated in the northwest and East Gippsland. Local hail and thunder in the southwest to reach central parts this evening. Snowfalls lowering below 700 metres at night. Fresh to strong and gusty west to northwest winds tending southwesterly in the west.Thursday 7 JulyScattered showers with local hail in the east and south, more extensive about the eastern ranges and Gippsland coast at first but easing and contracting to coastal areas during the afternoon. Isolated showers elsewhere clearing during the morning. Snowfalls down to 700 metres during the morning, contracting to Alpine regions by evening. Cold with a fresh to locally strong southwesterly wind.Friday 8 JulyWidespread morning frost over in the east and north. Isolated showers extending from the southwest to most southern and mountain areas during the day, becoming more widespread in the south and about the east ranges later. Isolated showers extending to the northern plains during the afternoon. Snowfalls down to 1200 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh westerly winds, stronger about the coast.Saturday 9 JulyMorning frost in the north. Isolated showers over most southern and mountain areas falling as snow above 1200 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh westerly winds, stronger about the coast.Sunday 10 JulyMorning frost in the north and east. Scattered showers over southern and mountain areas, falling as snow above 1200 metres.
