MELBOURNE - Jul 5/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front embedded in a vigorous southwesterly airstream will move from well south of the Bight northeastwards to cross Victoria on Wednesday night. More cold fronts are expected to affect southern Victoria and Bass Strait on Friday and during the weekend. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers, becoming widespread in the southwest and on the eastern ranges but isolated in the northwest and East Gippsland. Local hail and thunder developing in the southwest to reach central parts at night. Snowfalls above 1000 metres at first but lowering below 800 metres at night. A generally cold day with fresh to strong and gusty west to northwest winds tending southwesterly later in the west.Thursday 7 JulyScattered showers, more extensive about the eastern ranges and over West and South Gippsland but only isolated showers in the northwest. Snowfalls down to 600 metres during the morning then lifting to 800 metres from the west in the afternoon. Local hail and thunder at first in Gippsland. Cold with fresh to locally strong southwesterly wind.Friday 8 JulyScattered showers over most southern and mountain areas and isolated showers across the northern plains. Snowfalls down to 1000 metres. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh westerly winds, stronger about the coast.Saturday 9 JulyIsolated showers over most southern and mountain areas falling as snow above 1200 metres.
