MELBOURNE - Jul 5/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Double Island Point and Point Danger. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high pressure system to the southwest of Perth will extend a ridge through central Queensland over the next few days. Drier, cooler air is extending across much of the state in the wake of a trough that cleared off the southeast coast on Tuesday morning. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Very isolated light showers will continue about the northeast tropical coast with fine conditions elsewhere in the state. Generally moderate to fresh W to SW across the south of the state tending moderate SE to NE about the north of the state with locally fresh SE winds about the far northern coast. Strong W to SW winds will affect southeast waters. Forecast for Wednesday Isolated light showers will persist about the far northeast coast whilst the remainder of the state will remain fine and cool. Clear skies overnight will allow temperatures to fall away quickly with a large area of early frost over the southern and southeast interior. Moderate to fresh W to SW winds will continue over the south of the state tending S to SE over the northern half of the state. Forecast for Thursday The ridge of high pressure should persist across central Queensland and strengthen slightly. A cold front moves through New South Wales and will push another trough over southern Queensland with fresh to strong W to SW winds developing behind. Strong SE winds are expected over the southern Gulf in the morning and will also develop about the northeast tropical coast. Very isolated showers are likely to continue about the northeast coast but the remainder of the state should be fine with extensive early frost over the southeast and southern interior. Forecast for Friday The ridge of high pressure should persist over central Queensland with strong SE winds persisting about the northeast coast and also in the southern Gulf during the morning. Isolated showers will continue about the northeast coast. The remainder of the state will remain dry and cool with widespread frost across most of the interior and extending further north. Forecast for Saturday The ridge of high pressure will remain over central Queensland and slip slightly further south. Strong SE winds can be expected once again about the tropical coast north of Cairns and the southern Gulf during the morning. Very isolated showers may brush the far the northeast coast but the remainder of the state will be fine and cool. Another widespread early frost is expected about most of the interior, including into the tropics. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The ridge of high pressure should persist through central parts of the state with strong SE winds continuing about the northeast tropical coast. Isolated showers will also persist about the northeast coast in the onshore flow whilst the remainder of the state will be dry and cool. Widespread frosts are likely to continue about large parts of the interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Wednesday.
