Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between
Double Island Point and Point Danger.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high pressure system to the southwest of Perth will extend a ridge through
central Queensland over the next few days. Drier, cooler air is extending across
much of the state in the wake of a trough that cleared off the southeast coast
on Tuesday morning.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Very isolated light showers will continue about the northeast tropical coast
with fine conditions elsewhere in the state. Generally moderate to fresh W to SW
across the south of the state tending moderate SE to NE about the north of the
state with locally fresh SE winds about the far northern coast. Strong W to SW
winds will affect southeast waters.
Forecast for Wednesday
Isolated light showers will persist about the far northeast coast whilst the
remainder of the state will remain fine and cool. Clear skies overnight will
allow temperatures to fall away quickly with a large area of early frost over
the southern and southeast interior. Moderate to fresh W to SW winds will
continue over the south of the state tending S to SE over the northern half of
the state.
Forecast for Thursday
The ridge of high pressure should persist across central Queensland and
strengthen slightly. A cold front moves through New South Wales and will push
another trough over southern Queensland with fresh to strong W to SW winds
developing behind. Strong SE winds are expected over the southern Gulf in the
morning and will also develop about the northeast tropical coast. Very isolated
showers are likely to continue about the northeast coast but the remainder of
the state should be fine with extensive early frost over the southeast and
southern interior.
Forecast for Friday
The ridge of high pressure should persist over central Queensland with strong
SE winds persisting about the northeast coast and also in the southern Gulf
during the morning. Isolated showers will continue about the northeast coast.
The remainder of the state will remain dry and cool with widespread frost across
most of the interior and extending further north.
Forecast for Saturday
The ridge of high pressure will remain over central Queensland and slip
slightly further south. Strong SE winds can be expected once again about the
tropical coast north of Cairns and the southern Gulf during the morning. Very
isolated showers may brush the far the northeast coast but the remainder of the
state will be fine and cool. Another widespread early frost is expected about
most of the interior, including into the tropics.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The ridge of high pressure should persist through central parts of the state
with strong SE winds continuing about the northeast tropical coast. Isolated
showers will also persist about the northeast coast in the onshore flow whilst
the remainder of the state will be dry and cool. Widespread frosts are likely to
continue about large parts of the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
