Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 4/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters from
Double Island Point to Point Danger.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak area of high pressure over southeast Queensland will weaken further
this evening. A trough moving east across the interior of the state will move
off the southeast coast early on Tuesday morning. Another ridge will then
strengthen across the state in the wake of the trough.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers will persist about the northeast tropical coast whilst the
remainder of the state will be fine. Light to moderate SE to NE winds are
expected about the east coast, tending fresh in the tropics. Light to moderate
NE to NW winds will occur inland ahead of a W to SW wind change that will extend
across the west and south of the state.
Forecast for Tuesday
Isolated showers will continue about the northeast tropical coast in the
onshore flow. Early morning cloud and patchy drizzle is possible over the
Granite Belt as well as some patchy frost areas. Early fog patches are likely
about the east coast and adjacent inland north of about Bundaberg. The remainder
of the state will be dry and cool and it will feel particularly cool over the
southeast of the state in the freshening SW winds. The W to SW winds are
expected to become strong over southeast coastal waters. The strengthening
winds and dry air will lead to a high to very high fire danger for parts of the
Darling Downs and Granite Belt district and the Southeast Coast district.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high remains slow moving southwest of Perth, maintaining the ridge
through central Queensland. The coastal portion of the trough will move into the
northeast tropical coast with showers continuing about the northeast coast.
Cool and dry conditions are expected elsewhere across the state with a large
area of early frost over the southern and southeast interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The ridge of high pressure should persist across central Queensland and
strengthen. A cold front moves through New South Wales and will push another
trough over southern Queensland with fresh to strong W to SW winds developing
behind. Strong SE winds are expected over the southern Gulf in the morning and
will also develop about the northeast tropical coast. Isolated showers are
likely to continue about the northeast coast but the remainder of the state
should be fine with extensive early frost over the southeast and southern
interior.
Forecast for Friday
The ridge of high pressure should intensify further over central Queensland
with strong SE winds persisting about the northeast coast and also in the
southern Gulf during the morning. Isolated showers will continue about the
northeast coast. The remainder of the state will remain dry and cool with
another widespread frost across most of the interior and extending further
north.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The ridge of high pressure should persist through central parts of the state
with strong SE winds continuing about the northeast tropical coast. Isolated
showers will also persist about the northeast coast in the onshore flow whilst
the remainder of the state will be dry and cool. Widespread frosts are likely to
continue about large parts of the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
