MELBOURNE - Jul 3/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system well south of Adelaide will move southeastwards to be south of Tasmania by tonight. A series of strong cold fronts will then move across the state during the week with the first front arriving overnight Monday and moving across Victoria during Tuesday, followed by a second front on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of MondayScattered showers, more extensive over the southwest and about the eastern ranges with snowfalls lowering to 1200 metres by tonight. Isolated thunderstorms. Mostly dry across East Gippsland and the far northwest. A cool to cold day with strengthening west to northwest winds, reaching gale force at times over southern and mountain districts.Tuesday 5 JulyScattered showers falling as snow above 1000 metres Local hail over southern and mountain districts and possible thunderstorms near the coast. Isolated showers over the northwest. Cold with fresh to strong and squally west to southwesterly winds extending throughout, reaching gale force along the ranges and near the coast.Wednesday 6 JulyMostly cloudy with scattered showers, more widespread in the southwest and on the east ranges and tending to rain areas during the day. Local hail in the south and east and snowfalls lowing to 900m. A cold day with fresh to strong and gusty west to northwest winds tending southwesterly and reaching gale force at times on the ranges.Thursday 7 JulyIsolated showers mainly on and south of the ranges, more widespread along the coast and possible extending to northern inland areas during the afternoon. Snowfalls down to 800m.
