MELBOURNE - Jul 2/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation Ridge of higher pressure along the Queensland coast is weakening. A new trough is expected to move through southern Queensland over Monday. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Showers about the east coast generally, more frequent on the northeast tropical coast. A little early drizzle over inland eastern districts. Fine generally over the remainder of the state. Increasing higher cloud over the west with little or no rain developing in the Channel Country. Chilly over the south with extensive early frost over the southeast and southern interior. Generally warmer in the west with freshening NE to NW winds ahead of a southwesterly change overnight. Moderate to fresh SE winds about the east coast and across the tropics. Forecast for Monday The southwesterly wind change or trough progresses across southern Queensland with little or no rain along the southern border. Fine over the remainder of the state apart from showers continuing about the central and northeast tropical coasts. Generally warmer over the southern interior with the NW winds ahead of the change. This will reduce the early frost to the southeast interior. Forecast for Tuesday A new ridge of higher pressure develops across central Queensland from the west following the trough passage with drier and cooler conditions. The trough now clears the southeast coast early and moves north along the Capricorn coast during the day. Freshening SW winds over southeast Queensland reaching strong wind force in the evening. Early frost rapidly reduced to small areas over the southeast interior. Possible early drizzle over the southern Darling Downs. Becoming mostly dry over the remainder of Queensland with isolated showers contracted to the northeast tropics. Forecast for Wednesday The ridge axis shifts a little south and eases winds over southeast Queensland. A chilly morning over southern Queensland with a expanded early frost area over the southern and southeast interior. The coastal trough now entering the northeast tropics where showers persist. Dry and cool over the remainder of the state. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday Thursday, The ridge axis continues to dominate central Queensland with lighter winds. West or southwest winds freshen over southern Queensland as a secondary cold front over N.S.W approaches. Winds will continue to increase over the southeast of the state with strong winds off the southeast coast later in the day. Strong SE winds also developing in the northeast tropics and over the southern Gulf. Friday, southwesterly winds now ease over southeast Queensland as the ridge axis moves south. Cool dry weather will continue over most of the state with showers confined to the northeast tropics. A colder morning in the south with an expansion of the early frost area. Saturday, Winds are shifting more southerly over southeast Queensland with increasing moisture. The early frost area starts to contract away from the southeast coast. Remaining dry over the state apart from showers extending south along the central coast as winds shift southeasterly. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
