MELBOURNE - Jul 2/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high pressure system [1030 hPa] over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. The high is expected to move east and weaken. A trough is moving through South Australia, and is expected to reach southwest Queensland late Sunday. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Isolated showers about the east coast. Cloud increasing over the west of the state but no rain. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds along the east coast, tending light to moderate SE to NE over the interior. Forecast for Sunday Isolated showers about the east coast, tending scattered about the north tropical coast in the morning. Cloudy in the west, with little to no rain in the far southwest. Early frost areas about the southeast interior. Light to moderate SE to E winds along the east coast, fresh in the far north. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the interior, before a late SW change in the far west. Forecast for Monday The trough is expected to move across southern Queensland with cloud contracting to the far southern interior and clearing late in the day. Little or no rain is expected with this cloud near the border. Early morning frost areas over the southeast interior. Isolated showers along the tropical east coast in the onshore flow. Fine elsewhere. A new ridge expected to extend over western Queensland in the wake of the trough with drier W to SW winds. Forecast for Tuesday A large high southwest of Perth is expected to extend a ridge across central Queensland with dry and cooler W to SW winds developing across southern Queensland. The trough clears the southeast district early and moves north along the coast into central Queensland during the day. Isolated showers contracting to the north tropical coast, dry over the remainder of the state. Early frost about the Granite Belt region. Forecast for Wednesday The high will remain slow moving southwest of Perth, extending a ridge into southern and central Queensland with dry and cool W to SW winds in the southern half. Isolated showers along the far northern coast, fine elsewhere. Early morning frost about the southern and southeast interior. Strong winds expected in the southern Gulf and about the southeast coastal waters. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The large high southwest of Perth is expected to remain slow moving and extend a ridge across southern and central Queensland with cool and dry S to SW winds over most of the state, fresh and gusty at times over the southeast and northwest. Fresh SE winds are expected to develop over tropical waters. Only isolated showers are expected along the northeast tropical coast in the onshore SE airflow north of the ridge axis. Early morning frost areas are expected to return to the southeast, southern and central interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Sunday.
