MELBOURNE - Jul 1/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system near New Zealand extends a ridge across the Tasman Sea to New South Wales. A low pressure system over the Southern Ocean will also move eastwards to be south of Adelaide by Sunday night. An associated trough will cross Victoria during Sunday. A cold front will reach western Victoria later Monday, moving through eastern districts early on Tuesday. The associated low pressure system will move south of Tasmania to the south Tasman Sea on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayRain areas developing in the west and extending to central districts at night. Remaining fine in the east after local morning fog and frost. A cool to mild day with moderate to fresh northerly winds, strong at times over central and southwestern areas and about the ranges.Sunday 3 JulyAreas of rain clearing western districts during the day although isolated showers to follow about the southwest coast and possible thunderstorms. Snowfalls in the Alps above 1700m. Cool and cloudy with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, stronger about the ranges.Monday 4 JulyScattered showers, mainly in the southwest and on the ranges with snowfalls lowering to 1200m. A cool to cold day with cloudy periods but remaining fine and sunny in the northwest. Fresh to strong west to northwest winds, reaching gale force along the ranges and shifting west to southwest in the west later in the day.Tuesday 5 JulyScattered showers with local hail in southern and mountain districts, falling as snow above 1000m. Isolated showers in the northwest.
