Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 1/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning for coastal waters between Torres
Strait and St Lawrence is current.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A large high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea extends a firm
ridge along the east Queensland coast. The high is expected to move slowly
southeast and weaken over the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Isolated showers about the east coast, fine over the remainder of Queensland.
Fresh to strong E to SE winds over the tropics, moderating SE winds about the
central and southeast coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The high moves over New Zealand with a weakening ridge over eastern
Queensland. This will ease SE winds about the east coast. Strong winds
contracting to north of Cairns by the morning and easing further during the
afternoon. Isolated showers about the east coast, decreasing further on the
southeast coast. Dry over the interior with early frost over the southeast and
southern interior. Increasing higher cloud in the Channel Country but no rain.
Generally warmer in the southwest of the state with Northeast winds.
Forecast for Sunday
A ridge continues to weaken over eastern Queensland with lighter winds.
Showers persisting about the northeast tropical coast and the central coast. A
little early drizzle over the eastern interior. Dry over the remainder of the
state with extensive early frost over the southern and southern interior. Cloudy
through the southeast of the state with no rain.
Forecast for Monday
The trough or southwesterly wind change is expected to move through southern
districts with little or no rain near the southern border in the morning. Dry
over the remainder of the state, showers persisting in the northeast tropics.
Showers clearing on the central coast, fine over the southeast of the state.
Rising temperatures over southern districts associated with the northwest winds
ahead of the change will decrease the early morning frost to the southeast
interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The next ridge of higher pressure extends across the central interior from
South Australia with drier, cooler southwesterly winds developing across
southern Queensland. The trough clears the southeast district early and moves
north along the Capricorn coast during the day. Showers contracting to the
northeast tropics, dry over the remainder of the state. A little early frost in
the southeast interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Wednesday, the ridge persists over Queensland with easing southwest winds
over southern part of the state. Dry and cool throughout the state apart from
isolated showers in the northern tropics. Rather chilly over the southern and
southeast interior with extensive early frost. Thursday, the ridge axis moves
south into southern Queensland with a further reduction in the winds. This will
generate a large area of early frost over most of the southern half of the
state. Isolated showers in the northeast tropics, dry over the remainder.
Friday, as the ridge axis moves south winds shift more Southeasterly about the
east coast. This will extend coastal showers further south from the tropics.
Remaining fine over the southeast coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
