Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 30/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning for coastal waters between Torres
Strait and Point Danger, including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay.

Weather Situation
A large high pressure system over the southern Tasman extends a firm ridge
along the east Queensland coast. The high is expected to move slowly east and
gradually weaken over the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers about the east coast and eastern interior, tending scattered
about the north tropical and central coast. Fine elsewhere. Strong and gusty SE
winds along the east coast. Moderate to locally fresh SE to NE winds
elsewhere.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers about the east coast and nearby inland, tending scattered
about the north tropical coast in the morning. Fine elsewhere. Strong and gusty
SE winds along the east coast, decreasing to fresh south of Fraser Island in the
afternoon. Moderate to locally fresh SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
The high is expected to weaken and move over New Zealand. A ridge is expected
to persist along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will continue about
the east coast. Fine elsewhere, though high cloud is expected to increase over
the far southwest ahead of a trough to move over central Australia. Strong SE
winds along the tropical coast are expected to ease during the day with
generally light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. A cool to cold morning
over the southern and southeast interior with early morning frosts areas.
Forecast for Sunday
A ridge is expected to persist over eastern Queensland with moderate to fresh
SE winds and isolated showers along the tropical east coast. Morning drizzle and
isolated afternoon showers over the far eastern interior. Lighter SE to NE winds
along the remaining east coast with very isolated showers. The trough is
expected to move over the far southwest with cloud spreading across the Channel
Country and Warrego districts but with no rain. Warmer northerly winds over the
west and southern interior ahead of this trough; however early morning frost
areas are still expected over the southeast interior.
Forecast for Monday
The trough is expected to move across southern Queensland with cloud
spreading across border areas. NO rain is expected with this cloud. Early
morning frost areas over the southeast interior. Isolated showers along the
tropical east coast in the onshore flow. Fine elsewhere with a new ridge
expected to extend over western Queensland in the wake of the trough with drier
W to SW winds.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
A large high southwest of Perth is expected to move very slowly east into the
western Great Australian Bight  by late Thursday. This high is expected to
extend a ridge across southern and central Queensland with cool and dry S to SW
winds over most of the state, fresh and gusty at times over the southeast on
Tuesday. Only isolated showers are expected to persist along the north tropical
in the onshore SE airflow. Early morning frost areas over the southeast,
southern and central interior.

Friday.
