Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure along the Queensland east coast is expected to
strengthen as a large high pressure system develops over southeast Australia.
This ridge will persist for several days and will maintain fresh to strong winds
along the east coast for the forecast period. An upper-level low will move over
the southwest during Tuesday bringing scattered showers, possible thunderstorms
and areas of generally light rain.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers about the east coast and adjacent inland areas, more
frequent along the north tropical coast. Very isolated showers about the eastern
interior, extending towards the north and central west areas and clearing early
evening. Moderate SE to E winds in eastern parts of the state, fresh to strong
at times along the northern and central coasts extending to Burnett Heads.
Generally light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
Widespread showers developing over the interior with isolated afternoon
thunderstorms possible in southwest and central parts of the state. Isolated
showers will continue about the east coast and adjacent inland, tending
scattered about the central and tropical coasts. Early frost is possible over
the southeast Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Fresh to strong SE winds along the
east coast, increasing in the south late in the day. Generally moderate SE to E
winds over the interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will move over the Tasman Sea and intensify further with strong SE
winds persisting along the east coast of Queensland. The upper-level low moves
into the southeast of Queensland and weakens as it does so. Scattered showers
about the interior of the state should tend to ease through the day and contract
slowly eastwards. Isolated showers persisting about the east coast and adjacent
inland, tending scattered about the central and tropical coast. Minimum
temperatures should now be close to average for this time of year.
Forecast for Thursday
The high starts to move south in the Tasman Sea and remains intense. Strong
SE winds are likely to continue along the east coast of the state. Isolated
showers should continue about the length of the east coast and adjacent inland,
tending scattered about the north tropical coast. The remainder of the state is
expected to be fine.
Forecast for Friday
The high moves further southeast and weakens. Strong SE winds are expected to
ease over southern waters but persist further north. Showers will continue about
the east coast but become very isolated in the far north and far south.
Scattered showers will persist about the north tropical coast. Fine elsewhere in
the state with early frost returning to the Granite Belt and parts of the
southern interior.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The high in the Tasman Sea continues to move southeast, but maintains a weak
ridge along the east coast. SE winds easing further from the south during the
weekend, with mostly light winds expected over land. Isolated showers persisting
over much of the east coast and adjacent inland, most frequent about the north
tropical coast. Remaining fine over the interior apart from the chance of some
patchy light rain in the far southwest as a weak trough moves through during
Sunday or Monday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
