Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 26/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between
Torres Strait and Gladstone.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high pressure system [1030hPa] lies over eastern New South Wales and
extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The high is expected to move
east off the Queensland coast overnight and weaken.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers along the east coast, becoming more scattered about the
North Tropical Coast at night. Isolated showers developing about the eastern
interior in the afternoon, mostly about the southern tropics. Moderate to fresh
SE winds in the east, strong at times about the northern and central coasts.
Light to moderate E to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
Isolated showers will continue about the east coast and adjacent inland
areas, more frequent about the north tropical coast. Fresh to strong winds will
persist about the east coast. An upper level low is expected to approach the far
west of the state late in the day, increasing instability and leading to
isolated afternoon and evening showers about the central and tropical interior.
Remaining dry over the southern interior. Early morning frost is possible about
the southeast Darling Downs and Granite Belt.
Forecast for Tuesday
The new high should intensify over eastern Victoria with strong SE winds
extending along the entire east coast of Queensland. The upper level low is
expected to move into the southwest of the state, further increasing the
instability. This is expected to lead to a larger area of scattered showers over
the interior with isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible in the southwest of
the state. Isolated showers will continue about the east coast and adjacent
inland, tending scattered about the central and tropical coasts. Early frost is
again possible over the southeast Darling Downs and Granite Belt.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high should move in to the Tasman Sea and intensify further with strong
SE winds persisting about the east coast of Queensland. The upper level low
moves into the southeast of Queensland and weakens as it does so. Scattered
showers about the interior of the state should tend to ease through the day and
contract slowly eastwards. Isolated showers should persist about the east coast
and adjacent inland, tending scattered about the central and tropical coast.
Minima should now be close to average for this time of year.
Forecast for Thursday
The high starts to move south in the Tasman Sea and remains intense. Strong
SE winds are likely to continue about the east coast of the state. Isolated
showers should continue about the length of the east coast and adjacent inland,
tending scattered about the north tropical coast. The remainder of the state is
expected to be fine.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high in the Tasman Sea continues to move southeast to become centre over
New Zealand by the end of the outlook period. A moist SE to NE flow is expected
to continue across the state and the strong winds about the east coast will
gradually easy through the outlook period. Isolated showers will continue about
the east coast and adjacent inland with the rest of the state remaining dry. A
trough may enter the southwest of the state during Sunday which could bring a
band of cloud and patchy rain to the far southwest of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
