Weather Situation
A slow moving high pressure system occurs over N.S.W and extends a
strengthening ridge along the east Queensland coast.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
The high will move SE into N.S.W but maintain the strong winds about most the
Queensland east coast. Showers developing about the east coast, reaching a
maximum from Fraser Island to the Capricorn coast. Isolated showers developing
inland over the SE region in the afternoon. Dry over the remainder of the state
with early frost over the southern and SE interior. Light to moderate E/SE winds
over southern Queensland, fresh over the tropics.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will weaken a little over N.S.W but maintain the strong SE winds
about most of the Queensland coast. Winds will ease a little on the Capricorn
coast. Showers continuing about the east coast and adjacent inland, more
frequent about the southern tropical coast. Dry over the interior with a little
early frost near Roma and over the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Monday
A new high will form over Victoria and intensify and this will maintain the
strong SE winds about the Queensland coast. Showers again about the east coast
and extending over adjacent inland areas in the afternoon. Showers will be more
frequent on the NE tropical coast. An approaching upper level trough from the
west will generate isolated afternoon showers across the southern tropical
interior and the NW region of the state. Dry over the remainder. Some early
frost in the Granite Belt
Forecast for Tuesday
The high intensifies over eastern Victoria and increases the winds about the
Queensland east coast with the strong wind warning extending all the way to the
southern border. The upper level trough develops further into an upper level low
and approaches the western border. This will increase the instability in the
west and generate a larger area of afternoon showers over the interior. Some
afternoon thunderstorms may form in the west. Little change in the showers about
eastern districts. Early frost continuing over the Granite Belt.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Wednesday, the southern high intensifies to near 1041hpa and this will
maintain strong winds about the Queensland coast. Showers continuing about the
east coast with a maximum on the NE tropical coast. Isolated afternoon showers
through parts of the interior. No thunderstorms due to the weakening of the
upper level low. Thursday, the intense southern high remains stationary near
Tasmania, the weakening of the upper level low now clears the weather in the
west while showers remain over the eastern half of the state. Strong winds
persist about the east coast. Friday, the southern high starts to weaken and
move SE, this will ease winds about the Queensland coast, contracting the strong
winds north. Showers now confined to the east coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
