MELBOURNE - Jun 21/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure extends across southern and central Queensland. A weak trough, with associated southerly wind change, has passed over southern Queensland and will move further north over the next couple of days. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Southeasterly winds are expected to freshen ahead of this change over the northern tropics, while fresh SW to NW winds will affect the south coast. Dry throughout the state. Areas of early frost mainly over the eastern interior. Forecast for Thursday The coastal wind change moves into the southern tropics with isolated showers developing over the Central coast and the tropical east coast. Strong SE winds will develop over northeast tropical waters and in the southern Gulf in the morning. With lighter inland winds, extensive frosts will affect the interior, including the northwest and elevated tropical tablelands. Early frost will also increase over the southeast region. Forecast for Friday The high is expected to move into northern New South Wales and this will turn winds more southeasterly about the Queensland east coast, increasing moisture levels. This should also see some shower activity develop further south along exposed points of the coast. Dry over the interior with early frost contracting to the eastern half. Strong SE winds now extending south to about St Lawrence along the east coast but some easing in the southern Gulf. Forecast for Saturday The high continues to move southeast into New South Wales and this maintains the southeasterly flow across Queensland. Once again showers about the coast and dry over the interior. Strong winds continuing north of St Lawrence on the east coast. Early frost over the interior now contracting south. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday Sunday, returning to mostly dry conditions in the southeast as winds turn more southerly as the high weakens. Showers remaining about the rest of the east coast, whilst remaining dry over the interior. On Monday the high strengthens slightly, increasing winds over the southeast and maintaining the fresh to strong southeast winds over the remainder of the east coast. Winds will increase further in the southeast on Tuesday so fresh to strong winds will affect the entire east coast. Showers will also impact the length of the east coast from Monday, and may expand to parts of the interior during Tuesday. Early frosts generally confined to the southern interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Wednesday.
