MELBOURNE - Jun 21/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure extends across southern and central Queensland. A weak cold front is moving through N.S.W and southern Queensland at present. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Little or no rain developing near the southern border overnight as moderate to fresh NW winds shift SW'ly with the passage of the cold front. Dry over the remainder of the state, moderate SE winds over the tropics. Light winds across central districts. Forecast for Wednesday The cold front is expected to clear the southeast coast during the early morning and then move north along the Capricornia and onto the Central coast. The next high is expected to move into central Australia and extend a ridge through southern Queensland. Southeasterly winds are expected to freshen ahead of this change over the northern tropics. Remaining dry over the state apart from very isolated showers developing about the NE tropical coast as winds shift more SE'ly. Extensive early frost over the interior but reduced across southern districts. Forecast for Thursday The high is expected to progress across central Australia and ease winds over the SW of Queensland. This will expand the early morning frost area south and west. Early frost will also increase over the SE region as winds ease from the previous SW winds during Wednesday. The coastal wind change now moves into the southern tropics with showers increasing over the NE tropics. Strong SE winds now developing over NE tropical waters and in the southern Gulf in the morning. Forecast for Friday The high is expected to move into northern N.S.W and this will turn winds more SE'ly about the Queensland east coast, increasing moisture levels. This should also increase the shower activity further south along exposed points of the coast. Dry over the interior with contracting early frost. Strong SE winds now extending south to about St Lawrence along the east coast but no easing in the southern Gulf. Forecast for Saturday The high continues to move SE into N.S.W and this maintains the SE'ly flow across Queensland. Once again showers about the coast and dry over the interior. Strong winds continuing north of St Lawrence on the east coast. Early frost over the interior now contracting south. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday Sunday, becoming dry in the SE as winds turn more S'ly as the high weakens. Showers remaining about the rest of the east coast and dry over the interior. Monday, the next high enters S.A and maintains the drier S'ly flow over SE Queensland. Little change over the remainder of the state. Tuesday, SE'ly winds return to SE Queensland as the southern high moves east. This returns the showers back along the SE coast. Little change elsewhere in the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Wednesday.
