MELBOURNE - Jun 21/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation An intense cold front moved through the east of Victoria Tuesday morning then over the Tasman Sea in the afternoon. An associated deep low pressure system will pass south of Tasmania tonight. Another front will cross southern Victoria on Wednesday. A high pressure system will move across South Australia on Wednesday then over western New South Wales on Thursday. The high will move slowly across New South Wales on Friday and Saturday. A weakening front will approach western Bass Strait later on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers, falling as snow above 700 metres. Local hail and thunderstorms, mostly on and south of the divide. Cold, fresh to locally strong and gusty west to southwesterly winds.Wednesday 22 JuneScattered showers mainly over southern and mountain districts. Snow above 900 metres at first but becoming confined to the Alpine peaks during the day. Cool with a fresh to strong westerly wind.Thursday 23 JuneScattered showers near the coast and about the eastern ranges. Isolated showers elsewhere, but mostly dry over the northwest. Cool with a moderate to fresh west to southwesterly wind.Friday 24 JuneIsolated showers in the south, mainly near the coast. Cool with a light to moderate westerly wind, tending northwesterly in the west.Saturday 25 JuneEarly frost in the northeast.
