Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 20/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
An intense cold front crossing central Victoria will move through the east of the State this morning then over the Tasman Sea this afternoon and an associated deep low pressure system will pass south of Tasmania. A cold, vigorous and unstable west to southwesterly airflow will persist over Victoria on Tuesday. Another front will cross southern Victoria on Wednesday. A high pressure system will move across South Australia on Wednesday then over New South Wales on Thursday and northeastern Victoria on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayRain over central and eastern areas, clearing eastwards during the morning. Scattered showers to follow, falling as snow above 700 metres. Local hail and thunderstorms, mostly on and south of the divide. Strong to gale force north to northwest wind at first about the eastern highlands. Cold, fresh to locally strong and gusty west to southwesterly winds extending to the east this morning.Wednesday 22 JuneScattered showers mainly over southern and mountain districts, tending to rain areas about the northeast ranges and west Gippsland. Snow above 900 metres at first but becoming confined to the Alpine peaks during the day. Cool with a fresh to strong westerly wind.Thursday 23 JuneScattered showers near the coast and about the eastern ranges. Isolated showers elsewhere, but mostly dry over the northwest. Cool with a moderate to fresh west to southwesterly wind.Friday 24 JuneIsolated showers in the south, mainly near the coast. Cool with a light to moderate westerly wind, tending northwesterly in the west.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Tuesday.Product IDV10310
