Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 20/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A ridge extends across southern and central Queensland. A cold front is
expected to move across southern Queensland during Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine across most of the state. Only isolated showers along the east coast
north of about Cooktown. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the northern
tropics. Mostly light winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
Fine across most of the state. Only isolated showers along the east coast
north of about Cooktown. Cloud extending across the far southern interior but
with little or no rain. A cold morning over most of the state, with early
morning frost areas over most of the interior and inland coastal districts.
Light to moderate SE winds over the northern tropics. Light to moderate NW to SW
winds elsewhere, freshening over southern districts during the day.
Forecast for Wednesday
The cold front is expected to clear the southeast coast during the early
morning and then move north along the Capricornia coast and onto the Central
coast. The next high is expected to move into central Australia and extend a
ridge through southern Queensland. Southeasterly winds are expected to freshen
ahead of this change over the northern tropics with fresh to strong winds
developing. Remaining dry over the state apart from very isolated showers along
the far northern tropical coast. Early frost areas over the interior, except for
the northwest.
Forecast for Thursday
The high is expected to move slowly into southeast Australia. The coastal
trough is expected to move into the tropics and weaken, with isolated showers
along the north tropical coast and fresh to strong SE winds. Dry elsewhere over
the state with early frost areas over the interior, except for the northwest.
Forecast for Friday
The high is expected to be located over southeast Australia with a firm ridge
along most of the east coast. Isolated showers along the tropical coast,
developing along the central and exposed southern coast during the day. Dry
elsewhere over the state with early frost areas over the interior, except for
the far west and northwest. Fresh to strong SE winds along the tropical coast.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The high is expected to remain slow moving over southeast Australia with a
ridge along the east coast and a southeasterly flow over much of Queensland.
Isolated showers along east coast, extending to adjacent inland areas during the
afternoons. Remaining fine over the interior where early frosts are likely.
Fresh to strong SE winds continuing along the tropical and central coast, easing
on Monday.

Tuesday.
