MELBOURNE - Jun 19/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A slow-moving ridge of high pressure extends over Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Monday Isolated showers about the far northern Peninsula. Fine otherwise. Early morning frost areas inland. Moderate SE winds across the tropics, light to moderate SW to NW winds over southern districts. Forecast for Tuesday A cold front will move through South Australia and progress through Victoria and New South Wales, extending into Queensland during the day as a southwesterly change. Little or no rain expected along the southern border with this change. Early frost will decrease across the southwest but persist elsewhere over much of the state. Very isolated showers continuing in the northeast tropics. Forecast for Wednesday The southwesterly change will clear the southeast coast in the early hours and move north along the Capricorn coast and onto the Central coast. The next high will move over central Australia and extend a ridge through southern Queensland. Southeasterly winds to freshen ahead of this change over the tropics with fresh to strong winds developing. Remaining dry over the state apart from very isolated showers on the northeast tropical coast. Early frost over the eastern interior. Forecast for Thursday The high moves southeast and is expected to be near Adelaide. The coastal trough moves into the tropics with isolated showers developing about the southern tropics. Isolated showers becoming more frequent further north along the Queensland east coast. Fresh to strong SE winds continuing over northern waters. Dry elsewhere over the state with early frost over the interior. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The high moves over southeast Australia and directs a southeasterly flow over much of Queensland. This increases showers generally about the east coast. Showers are expected to develop about the exposed east coast and islands on Friday, and then extend further inland to adjacent locations during Saturday and Sunday. Remaining fine over the interior where early frosts are likely. Fresh to strong SE winds continuing about the northeast tropical coast and extending further south to the Central coast during the weekend. Winds easing over Gulf waters. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday.
