MELBOURNE - Jun 18/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation The main belt of high pressure will remain well to the north of Victoria during the forecast period allowing a series of cold fronts to affect Victoria. The next front will reach southwest Victoria this afternoon before sliding southeastwards towards Tasmania. A stronger cold front is expected to reach western Victoria late on Monday, moving across eastern Victoria early Tuesday morning as an associated deep low pressure system passes just south of Tasmania. Yet another cold front is expected to cross Victoria on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SundayIsolated showers or drizzle patches during the morning, mainly about the ranges. Showers developing across most districts during the afternoon and tending to rain periods over the southwest later in the afternoon and over the Central district at night. Snow on the higher Alpine peaks. Remaining dry over much of Gippsland and over the far north. Cool with fresh to strong west to northwesterly winds.Monday 20 JuneScattered showers extending to most districts with a band of rain reaching the southwest late afternoon and central districts at night. Local hail and thunder to follow over the southwest. Showers falling as snow over the Alpine peaks. Cool and cloudy with strengthening northwesterly wind, reaching gale force at times about the ranges.Tuesday 21 JuneEarly rain in the east clearing. Scattered showers to follow falling as snow above 700 metres. Local hail and possible thunderstorms, mainly over southern and mountain districts. Cold, fresh to strong and gusty west to southwesterly winds.Wednesday 22 JuneScattered showers mainly over southern and mountain districts, tending to rain areas about the northeast ranges and west Gippsland. Snow above 900 metres at first but becoming confined to the Alpine peaks during the day.
