Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 18/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A deep low pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea is moving slowly to the south. A high over central Australia extends a ridge eastwards. These two systems are resulting in fresh to strong southwest winds over NSW. Winds will ease Sunday as the low moves to near New Zealand and the ridge strengthens over NSW. An active cold front is expected to cross the state Tuesday, particularly affecting southern and central parts, with significant snow on the Alps likely.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers about the western slopes of the southern and central ranges, with snow on the higher peaks of the Alps. Fine remainder, mostly sunny near the coast, cloudy west of the ranges. Moderate to fresh west to southwest winds, strong at times about the southern and central ranges.Sunday 19 JuneIsolated showers on the western slopes of the southern ranges, tending scattered on the western slopes of the Alps, with some snow possible on the peaks. Fine elsewhere. Southwest to northwest winds.Monday 20 JuneIsolated showers on the western slopes of the far southern ranges tending scattered on the western slopes of the Alps, with some snow possible on the peaks. Fine elsewhere. West to northwest winds becoming fresh to strong and gusty in the south.Tuesday 21 JuneIsolated showers extending over the southern half of the state and to the southern parts of the northern ranges, slopes and plains. Showers becoming widespread about the western slopes of the southern ranges with possible thunderstorms and small hail while heavy snow develops over the Alpine areas. Fresh to strong gusty northwest winds ahead of a colder west to southwesterly change.Wednesday 22 JuneIsolated showers on the western slopes of the southern and central ranges tending scattered on the western slopes of the Alps with some snow possible.
