MELBOURNE - Jun 17/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A strong wind warning for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters for Saturday morning. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A deepening low pressure system over the Tasman Sea is moving slowly southeast. A ridge extends across central Queensland from a high over Western Australia. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Fine. A cool to cold morning with extensive early morning frosts across most of the interior. Moderate SW to SE winds, fresh and gusty at times over the southeast and northwest. Forecast for Sunday The ridge continues to extend across the state from a high over the Indian Ocean. Fine almost throughout, apart from isolated showers developing about the north tropical coast late in the day as an onshore airflow develops. A cold morning across the state with extensive early morning frosts across the interior and inland coastal districts. Light to moderate SW to SE winds. Forecast for Monday The ridge continues to extend across the state from the high over the Indian Ocean. Fine almost throughout, apart from isolated showers about the north tropical coast due to the onshore airflow north of the ridge. A cold morning across the state with extensive early morning frosts across the interior and inland coastal districts. Light to moderate SW to SE winds. Forecast for Tuesday The high is expected to move over Western Australia. The ridge is expected to persist across central areas of the state as a cold front moves over southern Queensland. No rain is expected with this front in Queensland. Fine almost throughout, apart from isolated showers about the north tropical coast due to the onshore airflow north of the ridge. A cold morning across the state with extensive early morning frosts across the interior and inland coastal districts. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, with freshening NW to SW winds over southern districts due to the passage of the cold front. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The ridge is expected to drift slowly south and lie over New South Wales by Friday. Mostly fine conditions are expected to continue across the state apart from isolated showers along the north tropical coast. Isolated showers are expected to extend south along the central coast during Thursday and develop along the exposed southern coast on Friday. Cool to cold mornings with early frosts across most of the interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday.
