Weather Situation
A complex low pressure system occurs over the northern Tasman Sea. A ridge of
high pressure extends through central Australia into the interior of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Early drizzle or fog over the SE interior with a little early frost, possible
afternoon showers. Dry over the remainder of the state. Extensive early frost
over the interior and southern tropics. Moderate to fresh SE winds across the
tropics, light to moderate SW to S winds over southern Queensland, freshening
during the day in the southeast.
Forecast for Saturday
The next high moves through central Australia, extending a ridge through
central Queensland. Winds easing throughout the state, including the SE. Dry
throughout Queensland with extensive early frost over most districts.
Forecast for Sunday
The next high moves into western Queensland along the ridge axis and weakens.
Winds shift more easterly over the NE tropics with increasing moisture and
developing isolated coastal showers. Remaining dry of the rest of the state with
extensive early frost which now expands into the east coast.
Forecast for Monday
The ridge axis weakens and shifts south over Queensland. This extends the
lighter winds further south and expands the inland frost further into the SE
coast with possibly the coldest morning. Elsewhere widespread early frost over
most districts. Dry generally apart from isolated coastal showers about the NE
tropical coast. Increasing moisture levels associated with winds shifting more
easterly in the NE tropics should extend the isolated showers south to about
Cardwell. A new cold front approaches South Australia.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Tuesday, the southern cold front sweeps through Victoria and N.S.W. Over
Queensland the ridge axis dominates with dry weather and extensive frost.
Showers contracting north over the NE tropics. Wednesday, little change from
Tuesday with the southern cold front offshore from N.S.W and dry SW'ly winds
freshening over SE Queensland. Dry over most of the state with showers in the NE
tropics. Thursday, showers increasing about the east coast as SE winds develop.
The ridge axis now moving south into northern N.S.W. Inland frost contracting
west.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
