Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 15/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A large high near Tasmania directs a cool SW to SE airflow over much of
Queensland. A complex low pressure system over northeast New South Wales and the
northern Tasman Sea. An upper level low is moving into the southeast Queensland
interior and off the southern coast during Thursday morning.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers and drizzle over the southern and central interior, with
possible isolated thunderstorms. Isolated showers over far northeast Cape York
Peninsula. Cool with light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times over the
northwest and southern interior.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers and morning drizzle over the southern interior. Isolated
showers over the far northeast Cape York Peninsula. Fine elsewhere. Early
morning frost areas about the central and tropical interior, extending into the
northwest of the state. Cool with light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at
times over the north.
Forecast for Friday
The ridge of high pressure continues to dominate Queensland with extensive
dry air. Apart from isolated drizzle or showers over the southeast Darling
Downs, most of the state should be dry and cool. Isolated showers persisting
over northeast Cape York Peninsula. Extensive early frost over the interior,
including the Atherton Tablelands and southeast inland. Freshening southwest
winds over southeast Queensland with strong winds offshore at night.
Forecast for Saturday
The next high is expected to move into central Australia, maintaining a ridge
across the state with dry air and lighter winds over the interior. Isolated
showers persisting over northeast Cape York Peninsula, fine elsewhere. Extensive
early frost over the interior, including the Atherton Tablelands and southeast
inland. Strong southwest winds easing during the morning off the southeast
Queensland coast.
Forecast for Sunday
The high dominates through central Australia, maintaining the ridge across
the state with dry air and lighter winds over the interior. Isolated showers
persisting over northeast Cape York Peninsula, while developing late about the
North Tropical Coast. Fine elsewhere. Extensive early frost over the interior,
including the Atherton Tablelands and southeast inland.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
A ridge is expected to persist across the state. The airflow is expected to
turn more onshore in the tropics, with increasing moisture levels and isolated
showers along the north tropical and central coasts. Dry over the remainder of
the state with some areas of frost areas inland.

Thursday.
