MELBOURNE - Jun 12/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A large high pressure system south of the Great Australian Bight directs a cool S to SE'ly airflow over much of Queensland. A surface trough is expected to deepen off the southern Queensland coast during Monday. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Cloudy with areas of light rain, showers and drizzle over the southern interior, central and southeast districts. Isolated showers over the far eastern tropics. Fine in the far west and northwest. Cool to cold with light to moderate SW to SE winds, freshening along the southern coast. Forecast for Monday Cloudy with scattered showers, morning drizzle areas over the southeast and southern interior. Possible local thunder over the southeast. Isolated showers over the southwest and central districts. Isolated showers over the far northeast tropical coast. Fine over the remainder of the tropics and in the northwest. Cool to cold with light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times along the southern coast. Forecast for Tuesday The high is expected to move over Tasmania and continue to direct a cool S to SE'ly airstream over most of Queensland as the surface trough deepens into a low pressure system and moves south to be off the New South Wales coast. The upper level low is expected to continue moving slowly southeast over the southern interior. Scattered showers and drizzle about the southeast and southern interior. Isolated showers over the southwest and central interior due to residual moisture and instability from the upper level low. Fine elsewhere apart from possible isolated showers along the far northeast tropical coast. Remaining cool during the day over most of the state, with a cold morning for the tropics. Forecast for Wednesday The upper level low is expected to move into the southeast Queensland interior and deepen the low pressure system off the New South Wales coast. The high is expected to move into the Tasman Sea. Cloudy with isolated showers and drizzle over the southeast and southern interior due to the moist SE to SW'ly airflow. Fine elsewhere apart from possible isolated showers along the far northeast tropical coast. Remaining cool during the day over most of the state, with a cold morning for the tropics and central interior. Forecast for Thursday The upper level low is expected to have weakened into a trough and should move southeast off the east coast in the morning. A high over the Indian Ocean will extend a ridge across central Australia and most of Queensland. The low pressure system off the New South Wales is likely to move east over the Tasman Sea. As a result, only morning drizzle is expected over the far southeastern Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Fine elsewhere apart from possible isolated showers along the far northeast tropical coast. Remaining cool during the day over most of the state, with a cold morning for the tropics and central interior. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The high is expected to move east over Western and South Australia and maintain the ridge across most of Queensland. Fine conditions across most of the state, apart from very isolated showers along the far northeast tropical coast. Isolated showers may develop off the far southern Queensland coast late Sunday due to a S'ly wind change. Remaining cool over most of the state with some early morning frosts returning to most of the interior, particularly through the southern and central interior.
