Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 11/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Strong wind warning for coastal waters between Bowen and
Burnett Heads.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A ridge extending from a large high pressure system over the Great Australian
Bight directs a cool SW to SE'ly airflow over much of Queensland. A cloudband
over central and southeastern Queensland is associated with an upper level low
over southwest Queensland. A surface trough over the western Coral Sea is
expected to move east during Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Cloudy with rain areas over central districts and southeast districts. Light
rain and showers over the Maranoa and Warrego. Generally isolated showers about
the eastern tropics and Central West district. Fine in the west. Cool to cold
with light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh to strong and gusty at times about
the Central and Capricornia coasts.
Forecast for Sunday
Cloudy with rain areas over the Capricornia and southeast districts. Light
rain or isolated showers over the southern and central interior. Isolated
showers over the eastern tropics. Fine in the far west and northwest. Cool to
cold with light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh to strong at times about the
Central and Capricornia coasts.
Forecast for Monday
The upper level low is expected to move slowly east over the southern
interior, with the rain areas contracting into the far southeast of the state as
a low pressure system develops off the far Southeast Coast. Showers or drizzle
areas over the remainder of the southeast and southern interior in a moist SE'ly
airflow from the high moving east towards Tasmania. Fine elsewhere apart from
isolated showers along the far northeast tropical coast. Remaining cool during
the day over most of the state, with a cold morning for the tropics.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high is expected to move over Tasmania and continue to direct a cool S to
SE'ly airstream over most of Queensland as the low pressure system moves south
to be off the New South Wales coast. The upper level low is expected to continue
moving slowly southeast over the southern interior. Early rain about the
southern border areas, otherwise scattered showers and drizzle about the
southeast and southern interior. Isolated showers over the southwest and central
districts due to residual moisture and instability from the upper level low.
Fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers along the far northeast tropical
coast. Remaining cool during the day over most of the state, with a cold morning
for the tropics.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper level low is expected to move into the southeast Queensland
interior and is expected to deepen the low pressure system off the New South
Wales coast. The high is expected to move into the Tasman Sea. Cloudy with
showers and drizzle over the southeast and southern interior due to the moist SE
to SW'ly airflow. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers along the far
northeast tropical coast. Remaining cool during the day over most of the state,
with a cold morning for the tropics and central interior.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The upper level low is expected to weaken into a trough while moving
southeast and off the east coast. A high over the Indian Ocean will extend a
ridge across central Australia and most of Queensland. The low pressure system
off the New South Wales is likely to move east over the Tasman Sea. As a result,
isolated showers or drizzle over the southern interior should clear by Friday.
Fine conditions expected elsewhere and across most of the state into the
weekend, apart from very isolated showers along the far northeast tropical
coast. Remaining cool over most of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
