MELBOURNE - Jun 11/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Strong wind warning for coastal waters between Bowen and Burnett Heads. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge extending from a large high pressure system over the Great Australian Bight directs a cool SW to SE'ly airflow over much of Queensland. A cloudband over central and southeastern Queensland is associated with an upper level low over southwest Queensland. A surface trough over the western Coral Sea is expected to move east during Sunday. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Cloudy with rain areas over central districts and southeast districts. Light rain and showers over the Maranoa and Warrego. Generally isolated showers about the eastern tropics and Central West district. Fine in the west. Cool to cold with light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh to strong and gusty at times about the Central and Capricornia coasts. Forecast for Sunday Cloudy with rain areas over the Capricornia and southeast districts. Light rain or isolated showers over the southern and central interior. Isolated showers over the eastern tropics. Fine in the far west and northwest. Cool to cold with light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh to strong at times about the Central and Capricornia coasts. Forecast for Monday The upper level low is expected to move slowly east over the southern interior, with the rain areas contracting into the far southeast of the state as a low pressure system develops off the far Southeast Coast. Showers or drizzle areas over the remainder of the southeast and southern interior in a moist SE'ly airflow from the high moving east towards Tasmania. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers along the far northeast tropical coast. Remaining cool during the day over most of the state, with a cold morning for the tropics. Forecast for Tuesday The high is expected to move over Tasmania and continue to direct a cool S to SE'ly airstream over most of Queensland as the low pressure system moves south to be off the New South Wales coast. The upper level low is expected to continue moving slowly southeast over the southern interior. Early rain about the southern border areas, otherwise scattered showers and drizzle about the southeast and southern interior. Isolated showers over the southwest and central districts due to residual moisture and instability from the upper level low. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers along the far northeast tropical coast. Remaining cool during the day over most of the state, with a cold morning for the tropics. Forecast for Wednesday The upper level low is expected to move into the southeast Queensland interior and is expected to deepen the low pressure system off the New South Wales coast. The high is expected to move into the Tasman Sea. Cloudy with showers and drizzle over the southeast and southern interior due to the moist SE to SW'ly airflow. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers along the far northeast tropical coast. Remaining cool during the day over most of the state, with a cold morning for the tropics and central interior. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The upper level low is expected to weaken into a trough while moving southeast and off the east coast. A high over the Indian Ocean will extend a ridge across central Australia and most of Queensland. The low pressure system off the New South Wales is likely to move east over the Tasman Sea. As a result, isolated showers or drizzle over the southern interior should clear by Friday. Fine conditions expected elsewhere and across most of the state into the weekend, apart from very isolated showers along the far northeast tropical coast. Remaining cool over most of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Sunday.
