web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A ridge extending from a large high pressure system south of the Great
Australian Bight directs a cool wind flow over southern Queensland. An
upper-level trough is producing a cloudband over the state.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Patchy rain areas from the northwest to the central areas of Queensland and
into the southern tropics, becoming heavier during the day from the northwest.
Isolated showers for the northern tropics, with isolated thunderstorms about the
tropical interior. Fine and cool over the southern parts of the state. Light to
moderate S to SE winds fresh about the coast in the north.
Forecast for Saturday
The upper-level trough moves slowly to the east, maintaining the cloudband
over most of the eastern half of the state. Rain areas persisting over the
interior and the central and northeast coasts, extending into southern and
southeast districts during the afternoon and evening. Fresh to possibly strong
SE winds about the Capricornia coast and further north as a trough deepens
offshore. Showers persisting over the tropics and developing about the southeast
coast, and extending to the southern interior in the afternoon. Fine in the
west. Early frost over the southern interior and possibly in the northwest.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper-level trough continues moving slowly to the east, maintaining
cloudy conditions over most of the eastern half. Rain areas contracting further
east, with isolated showers near the western edge of the cloudband. Isolated
showers over the northeast tropics. Fine over much of the western half of the
state. Fresh to possibly strong SE winds continuing over Gulf waters, the
central coast and extending to the south coast during the day. Early frost
possible in the northwest.
Forecast for Monday
The upper-level trough moves slowly east and the cloudband contracts further
south. Rain areas confined mainly to the southeast and southern interior with
isolated showers extending over the central interior, central coast and eastern
Channel Country. Mostly fine about the northeast tropics, with possible showers.
Fine over the western half. Fresh southerly winds over Gulf waters, and about
the southeast coast though easing during the day.
Forecast for Tuesday
Cloud associated with the upper-level trough contracts further south. Rain
confined to the far southeast and southern parts and generally reducing to
isolated showers during the day. Isolated showers elsewhere over the central and
southern interior. Fine elsewhere apart from the chance of showers over the
northeast tropics. Fresh southerly winds over the tropical east coast and Gulf
waters.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The slow moving upper-level trough continues to move southeast and moves off
the east coast on Thursday. The cloudband and rain becomes confined to the
southern interior and southern border ranges where some patchy rain, areas of
drizzle and isolated showers continue until Thursday. Fine elsewhere over the
state apart from the chance of showers about the tropical northeast. Fresh
southerly winds continuing over tropical waters.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
