MELBOURNE - Jun 9/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low east of Tasmania will move slowly to the east/northeast maintaining a strong southwest airstream over eastern parts of the state throughout Friday before winds turn more southerly and gradually ease on Saturday. A strong, slow-moving high south of the Bight will extend a ridge over southern NSW for the weekend while in the north an approaching upper trough is likely to bring some rain, particularly along the north coast late in the weekend where a surface trough is expected to deepen. This trough is currently expected to remain in place for most of next week and widespread rain along the northern coast and adjacent inland and fresh to strong gusty easterly winds are expected there for much of the week. A low is likely to develop within this trough off the NSW north coast or southeast Queensland at some stage during this period. Forecast for the rest of Friday Early frost in the north. Fog areas inland. Isolated showers on the South Coast and the Snowy Mountains, falling as a little snow on the Alps and extending to the coastal fringe of the central coast late in the day. Fine remainder. South to southwesterly winds, fresh to strong and gusty along the coast. Dangerous surf conditions developing for southern and central parts of the coast. Saturday 11 June Scattered showers developing over the northern coast and ranges, extending to the southern half of the coast late in the day. A little patchy rain developing about the inland Queensland border areas. The chance of a little morning snow about the Alps. South to southeasterly winds, fresh about the coast and northern ranges. Dangerous surf conditions for the southern and central parts of the coast. Sunday 12 JuneRain areas in the northeast. Showers over the the northern inland and the southeast. Fine in the southwest. South to southeast winds.Monday 13 JuneRain over the northeast half. Showers over the northwest and southeast with some snow possible on the Alpine peaks. Fine in the southwest.
