MELBOURNE - Jun 9/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge extending from a large high pressure system south of the Great Australian Bight directs a cool wind flow over southern Queensland. An upper-level trough is producing a cloudband over much of the state. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Cloudy conditions over most of the state with patchy rain areas extending from the northwest of the state to the southeast. Fine, though cold in the south. Isolated coastal showers about the northeast tropics. Mostly light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times in the far northeast. Forecast for Friday The cloudband and rain contracts further north and east, largely clearing conditions in the south and beginning to clear in the northwest. Rain areas continue through the eastern interior and extend to the central and northeast coasts. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms in the northeast tropics. Fine and cold over southern districts with extensive early frost over the southern and southeast interior, extending into the Channel Country. Forecast for Saturday The upper-level trough remains slow moving, maintaining the cloudband over most of the eastern half of the state. Rain areas persisting over the interior and the central and northeast coasts, extending into southern and southeast districts during the afternoon and evening. Fresh SE winds are expected to develop about the central coast as a trough deepens offshore. Showers persisting over the tropics and in the southwest of the state. Fine in the west. Early frost over the southern interior. Forecast for Sunday The upper-level trough stalls over the southwest of the state, maintaining cloudy conditions over most of the eastern half. Rain areas contracting further east, with isolated showers near the western edge of the cloudband. Isolated showers over the northeast tropics. Fine over much of the western half of the state. Fresh to possibly strong SE winds continuing over the central coast and extending further south during the day. Forecast for Monday The upper-level trough moves slowly east and the cloudband contracts further south. Rain areas confined mainly to the southeast with isolated showers extending over the southern and central interior and central coast. Isolated showers continuing over the northeast tropics. Fine over the western half. Fresh southerly winds about the southeast coast easing during the day. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The slow moving upper-level trough continues to move east causing the cloudband to contract further east and continue to dissipate. Patchy rain continuing in the south before reducing to showers during Wednesday or Thursday. A surface trough will deepen offshore causing winds to strengthen along the south coast. Showers over the northeast tropics will spread south along the Queensland east coast from Wednesday, but remain mostly about the exposed coast and islands. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Friday.
