MELBOURNE - Jun 8/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge extending from a large high pressure system south of the Great Australian Bight directs a cool wind flow over southern Queensland. An upper-level trough is producing a cloudband over much of the state. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Cloudy across the southern half of the state with isolated showers and patchy light rain. Fine towards the southern border with cool to cold conditions. Isolated showers about the northeast tropics and Capricornia coast. Fine over the NW of the state. Generally light winds over southern Queensland, moderate to fresh SE winds in the tropics. Forecast for Thursday The cloudband across the southern interior shifts north a little, extending into the southern Gulf and continuing to generate widespread light rain. Fine and cool to cold across southern districts with extensive early frost. Showers developing further over the northeast tropics and the central coast. Forecast for Friday The high moves further east across the southern Bight and continues to direct a cool southerly wind flow across southern Queensland. The cloudband and rain contracts further north and east, largely clearing conditions in the south and in the northwest. Rain areas continue through the eastern interior and extend to the central and northeast coasts. Fine and cold over southern districts with extensive early frost over the southern and southeast interior. Forecast for Saturday The upper-level trough remains slow-moving, maintaining the cloudband over most of the eastern half of the state. Rain areas persisting over the interior and the central and northeast coasts but now extending into southern and southeast districts. Fresh to strong SE winds developing about the central coast as a trough deepens offshore. Showers persisting over the tropics and in the southwest of the state. Fine in the west. Forecast for Sunday The upper-level trough stalls over the southwest of the state, maintaining cloudy conditions over most of the eastern half. Rain areas contracting further east, with isolated showers near the western edge of the cloudband. Fine over much of the western half of the state. Fresh to strong SE winds continuing over the central coast and extending further south during the day. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday The slow-moving upper-level trough maintains cloudy and rainy conditions over most of the eastern half of the state. This trough starts to deepen from Tuesday with moderate to heavy falls developing about the central coast and adjacent inland. The heavier rain extends further south on Wednesday with the potential for heavy falls to affect southern parts. Showers reducing in the northeast tropics. Fine in the northwest. Fresh to strong winds about the central and southern coasts. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Thursday.
