MELBOURNE - Jun 7/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak area of high pressure extends through most of Queensland. A cloud band occurs across the state with patchy light rain. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Cloudy across the southern half of the state with patchy light rain, fine towards the southern border and cool to cold. Isolated showers about the NE tropics, early drizzle or isolated afternoon showers over the southern tropics. Fine over the NW of the state. A little early frost in the Granite Belt. Light winds generally over southern Queensland, moderate to fresh SE winds in the tropics. Forecast for Thursday The depression off the Victorian coast blocks the next high and directs a deep, dry, cold S'ly airstream into southern Queensland. The rainband across the southern interior shifts north a little and extends into the southern Gulf. Fine and cold across southern districts with extensive early frost. Showers developing further over the NE tropics and the central coast. Forecast for Friday The depression off the Victorian coast moves slowly east allowing the high to also move slowly across the Great Australian Bight. An upper level low approaches the western border and clears the rain areas over the NW of the state. Rain areas continue through the interior and extend to the central coast. Fine and cold over southern districts with extensive early frost over the southern and SE interior. Forecast for Saturday The upper level low stalls over the Channel Country with fine weather over the NW of the state. Rain areas persisting over the interior and the central coast but now extending into southern and SE districts. Strong SE winds developing about the central coast as a trough develops offshore. Showers persisting over the tropics and in the SW of the state. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday Sunday, rain areas contracting to the southeast region with showers remaining over the western interior. Fine in the NW. Moderate to heavy falls about the central coast. Monday, rain areas contracting to the SE and southern border districts. Showers remaining over most of the interior. Tuesday, showers now remaining across southern and SE districts, fine over most of the interior. Showers reducing in the NE tropics. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Wednesday.
