MELBOURNE - Jun 7/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold and vigorous southwesterly airflow is located over Victoria. An associated deep low pressure system just east of Tasmania will track northeast to lie just east of Bass Strait on Wednesday. The low will remain just east of Bass Strait on Thursday before moving away to the east on Friday. Meanwhile, a high pressure system will build south of the Bight through till Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers on and south of the ranges, more widespread in the southeast and tending to rain areas at times. Isolated showers extending to the northern inland although fine over the far northwest. Local hail and thunder in the east. Snow showers above 500 metres at first, contracting to above 900 metres by the evening. Cold with fresh to strong and gusty south to southwesterly winds, reaching gale force at times along the Gippsland coast.Thursday 9 JuneScattered showers on and south of the ranges, tending to rain areas over East Gippsland. Isolated showers extending across the ranges to the northern inland but fine and mainly sunny over the northwest. Snow showers above 900 metres in the morning before being confined to 1200 metres and above later. Cold with a fresh to strong southerly wind easing in the west.Friday 10 JuneScattered showers on and south of the ranges, becoming isolated during the day and falling as snow on the Alps. Fine and sunny north of the divide. Remaining cool to cold with moderate southerly winds, fresh at times along the coast.Saturday 11 JuneIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, contracting to Gippsland and exposed coastal areas during the day. Isolated snow showers clearing from the Alps. Fine and sunny over the northern inland.
