MELBOURNE - Jun 7/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak area of high pressure extends through most of Queensland. A cloud band is developing across central Australia from the west into Queensland with rain areas. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday High cloud through southern Queensland, with some light patchy rain areas about the southwest. Isolated showers about the northeast tropics. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times in the far north. Forecast for Wednesday High cloud through southern Queensland, with some light patchy rain areas in some parts. Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast, developing about the adjacent inland in the afternoon. Fine elsewhere. Early frost areas possible about the Granite Belt. Light to moderate SE to NW winds, fresh at times in the far north. Forecast for Thursday The low pressure system off the Victorian coast blocks the next high and maintains a deep, cold and dry southerly airstream into southern Queensland. The rainband moves slightly north with fine and cool conditions across the far southern districts. Early frost over a large area across the southern interior followed by a cold day. Showers persisting over the NE tropics as the coastal trough moves into the southern tropics. Forecast for Friday The depression off the Victorian coast moves slowly east but deep, cold S'ly winds continue across southern Queensland. Extensive early frost over the southern interior. Rain areas in the northwest, extending into the southern tropics and central areas during the day and becoming heavy at times. Showers generally over the NE tropics. Forecast for Saturday The high remains slow moving in the Great Australian Bight, while a trough will deepen off the Queensland coast with a low expected to develop off the Capricornia coast. Rain areas in the eastern half of the state, especially about the central and southeast areas and heavy at times. Isolated showers and patchy rain in the west but clearing in the west. Strong winds are expected to develop off the Central and Capricornia coasts. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday Rain areas contracting to the southeast during Sunday and Monday while beginning to clear in the north. Strong to gale force winds expected off the southern coast as the low moves southwards off the Queensland coast. Showers in the west of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Wednesday.
