MELBOURNE - Jun 6/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak area of high pressure occurs over most of Queensland. A cloud band is developing across central Australia from the west into Queensland with rain areas. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Increasing high cloud from the west with developing rain areas. Showers continuing about the central and NE tropical coast. Some early drizzle over the southern tropics then isolated afternoon showers. A little early frost over the Granite Belt. Fine in the NW part of the state and over the SE. Forecast for Wednesday After the passage of a cold front through Victoria a deep depression will develop off the SE Victorian coast. This will extend a trough or SW'ly wind change through SE Queensland and move up into the Capricorn coast. The rainband continues across the west and central interior but weakening towards the Burnett region. Cloud in the far south but fine and cold. A little early frost in the Granite Belt. Showers persisting in the NE tropics and the southern tropics near the coast. Forecast for Thursday The low pressure system off the Victorian coast blocks the next high and maintains a deep, cold, dry S'ly airstream into southern Queensland. The rainband moves further northwith fine conditions across southern districts. Early frost over a large area across the southern interior followed by a cold day. Showers persisting over the NE tropics as the coastal trough moves into the southern tropics. Forecast for Friday The depression off the Victorian coast moves slowly east but deep, cold S'ly winds continue across southern Queensland. Extensive early frost over the southern interior. Rain areas contracting into the interior from the NW as the upper level low approaches from the west. Showers generally over the NE tropics. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday Saturday, rain areas covering a large area of the interior and spreading into the south and the SE of the state. Heavier rainfall developing about the central coast with strong SE winds. Fine in the NW. Sunday, rain areas continuing to contract slowly south. Monday, rain areas confined to the SE corner, showers remaining in the west. Fine in the NW of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Tuesday.
