MELBOURNE - Jun 6/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak high pressure ridge lies over northern NSW. A cold front is moving across the state, with very dry cold air behind the front. A second cold front and upper cold pool, will move through most of NSW later Tuesday and Wednesday, particularly affecting southern parts, with snow to quite low levels and possible thunder or small hail. A high in the Bight follows the front, while a low develops over the southern Tasman Sea from Tuesday through Friday. Over the weekend indications are that a trough will develop along the coast with a low likely off the far north coast Sunday/Monday. This has the potential to lead to significant rain in the far northeast of the state. Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated light showers possible along the exposed coastal fringe of the central coast. Mostly clear remainder. South to southwesterly winds.Tuesday 7 JuneWidespread frost areas, chiefly in the east. Possible light showers over the southern and central inland parts, most likely about the western slopes of the southern ranges later in the day and falling as snow down to about 1000 metres, and lowering further overnight. Fine elsewhere. West to northwest winds, strengthening in the southeast and turning colder southwesterly in the far south late.Wednesday 8 JuneWidespread early frost in the east. Isolated showers about southeastern and central districts, mostly about the western slopes of the southern ranges. Snow, possibly down to about 700 metres in the south during the morning. The chance of thunder or small hail about the eastern half of the Victorian border districts. Fine on the north coast and in the far west. Cold west to southwest winds, strong and gusty in the east.Thursday 9 JuneWidespread early frosts in the east. Isolated showers in the southeastern inland and on the far south coast, more widespread about the western slopes of the Alps. Snow showers on the Alps. Cold southwest winds, strong and gusty in the east.Friday 10 JuneWidespread early frosts in the east. Isolated showers on the South Coast and the Snowy Mountains, falling as snow on the Alps. Fine remainder.
