Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 5/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak ridge of high pressure will persist over southern and central
Queensland for the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers about the central coast of Queensland, dry over the
remainder of the state. High cloud contracting to eastern districts. Light winds
generally, light to moderate E to SE winds across the tropics.
Forecast for Monday
A cold front is approaching Victoria from the southern ocean otherwise little
change in the weather over Queensland. Showers continuing about the central
coast and extending north into the NE tropics. Some early drizzle over the
southern tropics then isolated afternoon showers. Patches of high cloud
persisting across central and southern Queensland with no rain. A little early
frost near Roma and the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Tuesday
The cold front sweeps through Victoria with a deepening depression south of
Victoria. The cold front eventually clears the N.S.W coast. A weak trough
associated with this front will move through southern Queensland with no
weather. Higher cloud will increase across southern Queensland with patchy light
rain developing in the far west overnight. Extensive early frost over a larger
area over the SE interior. Showers continuing about the central and NE tropical
coast, again early drizzle over the southern tropics.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough moves through SE Queensland and the NW of the state.
Patchy rain across the central interior. Showers persisting in the NE tropics
and the central coast. Dry in the far south with a little early frost in the
Granite Belt.
Forecast for Thursday
The frontal low moves further east with deep, cold S'ly winds over southern
Queensland. A coastal trough moves north along the central coast with showers.
Showers continuing in the NE tropics. Patchy rain continuing across central
Queensland. Dry in the south with a larger area of early frost over the southern
and SE interior.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Friday, an upper level low will develop towards the Northern Territory and
this will increase rain areas over NW districts. Showers increasing about the
central and NE tropical coast. Saturday, rain areas spreading into SE districts
while clearing in western districts. The upper level low will approach western
Queensland with rain areas slowly clearing the eastern interior but persisting
about the east coast and the SE. This rain episode will end the early frost over
the SE interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
