Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 5/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
An active cold front will sweep through Victoria tonight and early Monday morning. A stronger cold front is expected to move northeastwards from the Southern Ocean to reach Victoria late on Tuesday. An associated low pressure system is expected to develop just to the southeast of Victoria early on Wednesday before becoming slow-moving. A high pressure system will develop to the south of the Bight on Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of SundayScattered showers over the northeast. A band of rain over the southwest extending eastwards across the State tonight. Local hail possible near the coast and snow falls above 1400 metres. Strong to gale force north to northwesterly wind shifting colder and gusty southwesterly from the west.Monday 6 JuneEarly rain in the east then scattered showers to follow, mainly in southern and mountain areas. The showers becoming isolated in the afternoon and clearing in the north. Local hail near the coast at first. Snowfalls lowering to 900 metres in the morning but lifting above 1200 metres in the afternoon. Early frost inland. Generally cold with moderate to fresh west to southwest wind, easing in the afternoon.Tuesday 7 JuneEarly frost in the northeast. Showers becoming more extensive from the southwest during the day and also extending to northern areas and tending to rain at times in parts of the south and northeast. Snowfalls developing later on the ranges above 700 metres. Possible hail and thunder developing. Cool to cold with north to northwest wind strengthening then turning cold southerly from the west late in the afternoon and at night.Wednesday 8 JuneWidespread showers in the southeast. Scattered showers in the southwest. Isolated showers over the north although fine over the far northwest. Possible hail and thunder in the east. Snow showers above 600 metres. Cold with fresh and gusty south to southwesterly winds.Thursday 9 JuneWidespread showers in the southeast. Scattered showers in remaining southern and mountain areas. Isolated showers in the north but fine over the northwest. Snow showers above 800 metres in the morning before being confined to 1200 metres and above later. Cold with a fresh to strong southerly wind easing in the west.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Monday.Product IDV10310
