Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 5/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak high pressure ridge lies over northern NSW. A fairly strong cold front will cross southeast NSW tonight and early Monday before the ridge extends south later in the day. A second, stronger cold front will move through most of NSW later Tuesday and Wednesday, particularly affecting southern and central parts. Strong, cold southwest winds will follow the front with showers chiefly about the western slopes of the ranges and snow to quite low levels. A low is likely to develop on the front east of Tasmania or Bass Strait Tuesday night or Wednesday then move only slowly to the east Thursday resulting in strong, cold southwest winds persisting over much of NSW Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of SundayPossible isolated showers through southern and central inland parts, more likely about the western slopes of the southern ranges and falling as snow on the Alps above about 1200 metres. Fine elsewhere. Northwest to southwest winds, fresh to strong about the southern ranges and reaching gale force at times.Monday 6 JunePossible isolated showers over southern and central inland parts, more likely about the southwestern slopes during the morning and falling as snow on the Alps. Early frost areas on the southern ranges. Fog patches west of the ranges, mostly central parts. Fine elsewhere. Southwest winds, strong and gusty about the southeast during the morning, and possibly reaching gale force about the Illawarra early.Tuesday 7 JunePossible showers over the southern and central inland parts, increasing about the western slopes of the southern ranges later and falling as snow on the Alps. Early frost areas, chiefly in the east. Fine elsewhere. West to northwest winds, strengthening in the southeast and turning cold southwesterly in the far south late.Wednesday 8 JuneIsolated showers about eastern and central districts, mostly about the western slopes of the southern and central ranges with snow to about 700 metres. Early frost areas. Fine on the north coast and in the far west. Cold west to southwest winds, strong and gusty in the east.Thursday 9 JuneIsolated showers in the southeast, more widespread about the far south coast and southern ranges. Snow showers on the southern ranges. Cold southwest winds, strong and gusty in the east.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Monday.Product IDN10031
