MELBOURNE - Jun 4/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation An active cold front will approach from the west tomorrow, reaching southwest Victoria during the afternoon and pushing through the east of the State early on Monday. Another cold front is expected to move northeastwards from the Southern Ocean to reach Victoria late on Tuesday. A low pressure system is expected to develop just to the southeast of Victoria early on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers in the south, mainly near the coast. Moderate to fresh westerly winds.Sunday 5 JuneFine at first with cool north to northwesterly wind strengthening over southern and elevated areas. Scattered showers developing over the northeast during the morning. A band of rain reaching the southwest by the afternoon and extending eastwards across the State later in the day and evening along with a colder gusty west to southwesterly change. Local hail possible near the coast later. Snow falls above 1400 metres.Monday 6 JuneEarly rain in the east then scattered showers to follow in southern and mountain areas. The showers becoming isolated in the afternoon and clearing in the north. Snowfalls lowering to 900 metres in the morning but lifting above 1200 metres in the afternoon. Generally cold with moderate to fresh west to southwest wind, easing in the afternoon.Tuesday 7 JuneEarly frost in the northeast. Showers becoming more extensive from the southwest during the day and also extending to northern areas and tending to rain at times in parts of the south and northeast. Snowfalls developing later on the ranges above 800 metres. Possible hail and thunder developing in the southwest. Cool to cold with north to northwest wind strengthening then turning cold southerly from the west late in the afternoon and at night.Wednesday 8 JuneWidespread showers in the southeast with possible hail and thunder. Scattered showers in the southwest. Isolated showers over the north although fine over the far northwest. Snow showers above 800 metres.
