MELBOURNE - Jun 3/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak high pressure system over central and southeast Australia. A low over
the Tasman Sea will continue to move south during the rest of today and
Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Fine across much of the state. Isolated light showers over Torres Strait and
northern Cape York Peninsula. Isolated light showers also developing along the
exposed tropical coast late tonight. Fine elsewhere. Generally light to moderate
SW to SE winds.
Forecast for Saturday
Fine across much of the state. Isolated light showers along the tropical
coast and over Torres Strait and northern Cape York Peninsula. Early morning
frost patches about the Granite Belt, southeast Darling Downs, Maranoa and
northeast Warrego. High cloud extending across southern Queensland during the
day. Light to moderate SW to SE winds.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will remain slow moving to the southwest of Western Australia,
maintaining a ridge and fine conditions across much of the Queensland. Some high
cloud will persist over central and southern parts of the state though no rain
is expected to dry conditions continuing at the surface. Isolated showers will
continue over northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Drizzle areas and
isolated showers are expected over the coast and adjacent inland between about
Cooktown and Rockhampton due to a moist low level wind flow to the east of a
weak trough offshore of the northeast tropical coast. Early light frost will
possibly occur on the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Monday
The high will move closer to the southern Western Australia coast,
maintaining the ridge and fine conditions over most Queensland districts. Moist
low level winds will continue to produce isolated showers and morning drizzle on
the coast and adjacent inland between about Cooktown and Rockhampton. Isolated
showers will also persist through northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres
Strait. Some mid to high level cloud will extend over southern Queensland but
again no rain is expected due to dry W'ly winds at the surface. Early light
frost will possibly occur on the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will move into the southwest Great Australian Bight, maintaining the
ridge and fine conditions over most Queensland districts. Moist low level winds
will produce isolated showers about the tropical coast and adjacent inland
between about Cooktown and Rockhampton. Isolated showers will also persist
through northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. More extensive early
frost patches are likely over parts of the southern and southeast interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The high will move slowly east through the southern Great Australian Bight
over the outlook period, gradually strengthening the ridge and extending fresh
to strong SE winds along the east Queensland coast. The increasing onshore wind
flow will generate showers over the east tropical coast and adjacent inland,
also developing on the exposed southern coast from Thursday. A trough will most
likely move into central Australia on Thursday and intensify during Friday. This
will extend cloud and possible patchy light rain into far western Queensland on
Thursday, spreading a little further east across western Queensland during
Friday. Fine conditions are expected elsewhere over the interior. Early frosts
patches will occur over the southern and southeast interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
