MELBOURNE - Jun 3/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak high pressure system over central and southeast Australia. A low over the Tasman Sea will continue to move south during the rest of today and Saturday. Forecast for the rest of Friday Fine across much of the state. Isolated light showers over Torres Strait and northern Cape York Peninsula. Isolated light showers also developing along the exposed tropical coast late tonight. Fine elsewhere. Generally light to moderate SW to SE winds. Forecast for Saturday Fine across much of the state. Isolated light showers along the tropical coast and over Torres Strait and northern Cape York Peninsula. Early morning frost patches about the Granite Belt, southeast Darling Downs, Maranoa and northeast Warrego. High cloud extending across southern Queensland during the day. Light to moderate SW to SE winds. Forecast for Sunday The high will remain slow moving to the southwest of Western Australia, maintaining a ridge and fine conditions across much of the Queensland. Some high cloud will persist over central and southern parts of the state though no rain is expected to dry conditions continuing at the surface. Isolated showers will continue over northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Drizzle areas and isolated showers are expected over the coast and adjacent inland between about Cooktown and Rockhampton due to a moist low level wind flow to the east of a weak trough offshore of the northeast tropical coast. Early light frost will possibly occur on the Granite Belt. Forecast for Monday The high will move closer to the southern Western Australia coast, maintaining the ridge and fine conditions over most Queensland districts. Moist low level winds will continue to produce isolated showers and morning drizzle on the coast and adjacent inland between about Cooktown and Rockhampton. Isolated showers will also persist through northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Some mid to high level cloud will extend over southern Queensland but again no rain is expected due to dry W'ly winds at the surface. Early light frost will possibly occur on the Granite Belt. Forecast for Tuesday The high will move into the southwest Great Australian Bight, maintaining the ridge and fine conditions over most Queensland districts. Moist low level winds will produce isolated showers about the tropical coast and adjacent inland between about Cooktown and Rockhampton. Isolated showers will also persist through northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. More extensive early frost patches are likely over parts of the southern and southeast interior. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The high will move slowly east through the southern Great Australian Bight over the outlook period, gradually strengthening the ridge and extending fresh to strong SE winds along the east Queensland coast. The increasing onshore wind flow will generate showers over the east tropical coast and adjacent inland, also developing on the exposed southern coast from Thursday. A trough will most likely move into central Australia on Thursday and intensify during Friday. This will extend cloud and possible patchy light rain into far western Queensland on Thursday, spreading a little further east across western Queensland during Friday. Fine conditions are expected elsewhere over the interior. Early frosts patches will occur over the southern and southeast interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
