MELBOURNE - Jun 2/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
The Strong Wind Warning for waters from Sandy Cape to Point
Danger, excluding Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay, has been cancelled.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high pressure system southeast of New Zealand extends a weakening ridge
into the Queensland interior. A low over the far northern Tasman Sea will
continue moving south further away from southern Queensland waters on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers and drizzle areas over the Gold Coast and southern border
ranges. Mostly fine elsewhere over the southeast with only isolated fog patches
developing, chiefly on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range. Isolated
showers over Torres Strait. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SW to SE winds,
fresh at times along the southern coast.
Forecast for Friday
Fine across much of the state. Isolated early morning fog patches over the
southeast and southern interior. Possible early frost on the Granite Belt and
over higher ground in the eastern tropics. Isolated light showers over Torres
Strait and northern Cape York Peninsula. Isolated light showers also developing
on the northeast tropical and central coasts during the day, though chiefly on
the islands. Isolated showers clearing the Fraser coast during the morning. Fine
elsewhere. Generally light to moderate SW to SE winds.
Forecast for Saturday
A new high over the southern Indian Ocean will extend a ridge and fine
conditions over much of Queensland. An upper-level trough will extend high cloud
through southern parts of the state, though with no rain due to dry W'ly winds
at the surface. Isolated showers will occur in an onshore wind flow over
northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Isolated showers are also
expected over the east tropical coast south of Cairns and central coast, though
chiefly on the islands. Early morning fog patches are likely over the coast and
adjacent inland north of about Fraser Island. Early frost is likely on the
Granite Belt.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will remain slow moving to the southwest of Western Australia,
maintaining a ridge and fine conditions across much of the Queensland. Some high
cloud will persist over central and southern parts of the state though no rain
is expected to dry conditions continuing at the surface. Isolated showers will
continue over northern Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Drizzle areas and
isolated showers are expected over the coast and adjacent inland between about
Cooktown and Rockhampton due to a moist low level wind flow to the east of a
weak trough offshore of the northeast tropical coast. Early frost will possibly
occur on the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Monday
The high moves closer to the southern Western Australia coast, maintaining
the ridge over Queensland, with fine conditions persisting through most
districts. Moist low level winds will continue to produce isolated showers and
morning drizzle on the coast and adjacent inland between about Cooktown and
Rockhampton. Isolated showers will also persist through northern Cape York
Peninsula and Torres Strait. Some mid to high level cloud will extend over
southern Queensland but again with no rain expected due to dry W'ly winds at the
surface. Early frost will possibly occur on the Granite Belt.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high will move slowly east through the southern Great Australian Bight
over the outlook period, gradually strengthening the ridge and extending fresh
to strong SE winds along the east Queensland coast. The increasing onshore wind
flow will move showers onto the east tropical coast, also developing on the
exposed southern coast on Thursday. A trough will most likely move into central
Australia on Thursday, extending some cloud and possible patchy light rain into
far western Queensland. Fine conditions are expected elsewhere over the
interior. Early frosts patches will occur over the southern and southeast
interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
