MELBOURNE - Jun 1/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time

web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge over the
Queensland interior and over much of the east coast. The high will move slowly
east towards New Zealand over the next couple of days and cause the ridge to
weaken. A surface trough extends from a low over the southern Coral Sea to the
northern New South Wales Coast, with the low expected to deepen and slowly move
to the southeast.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers about the far southeast coast, with showers and drizzle
areas about the southeast interior clearing early evening. Isolated showers
about the northern Peninsula. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SW to SE
winds.
Forecast for Thursday
Scattered showers are expected in the unstable fresh to strong southerly flow
on the southern border ranges and Gold Coast. More isolated showers are expected
elsewhere over the southeast. Fine conditions inland due to a stable airstream
across the state. Early morning frost patches are likely over the Tablelands in
the eastern tropics.
Forecast for Friday
The high will move to the southeast of New Zealand, while the low will weaken
and also drift east. Southerly winds will therefore gradually ease over southern
Queensland waters. Fine conditions are expected across the interior under the
influence of a ridge of high pressure. Fine conditions are also expected over
the southeast coast apart from some isolated showers during the morning over
Fraser Island. Mostly fine conditions throughout the tropics with only isolated
showers on the northeast tropical coast and possibly developing on the central
coast late in the day.
Forecast for Saturday
A new high over the southern Indian Ocean will extend a ridge over much of
Queensland, with fine conditions expected across the interior and the southeast
coast. Mostly fine conditions will occur in the tropics with only isolated
showers near the coast. Early frost is possible on the Granite Belt given
lighter winds and clear skies.
Forecast for Sunday
A weak trough will move over southern Queensland during the day causing
isolated showers over the southeast. The high approaching Western Australia will
continue to extend a ridge over most of Queensland, maintaining fine conditions
over most other districts. Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast
and possible showers about the central coast. Early frost again possible on the
Granite Belt.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The trough is expected to move off the east coast during Monday, clearing
conditions in the southeast. The high will strengthen and move slowly into the
Great Australian Bight during the outlook period, maintaining onshore winds over
the tropical east coast with isolated showers expected, mostly in the far north.
An upper trough is forecast to move into the southwest on Tuesday possibly
generating isolated showers and patchy rain areas over the southern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
