MELBOURNE - Apr 30/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Cape Moreton and Point Danger for Sunday. Flood warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A large high [1034 hPa] near New Zealand extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A low near New Caledonia is expected to stay well offshore, but will continue to produce elevated sea swell heights about the southern and central coasts until late Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Fine most of the state except for some isolated showers about the exposed parts of the east coast, and also over the Peninsula district. Increasing high cloud in the SW of the state but no rain. Mainly light and variable winds over the interior, with moderate to fresh SE winds about the east coast. Dangerous surf conditions about the exposed parts of the central coast, and also over the southeast coast. Forecast for Monday A new upper level trough will reach the western border and generate patchy rain over the Channel Country and the southern interior. Fine over the rest of the state except for some isolated showers about the northeast coast. The low will remain well offshore in the Tasman Sea, but will continue to produce dangerous surf along the southern and central coasts. Light to moderate SE to SW winds, fresh at times about the northeast coast. Forecast for Tuesday The upper level trough will move over the southeast interior, allowing conditions in the Channel Country to clear but producing patchy rain over the southern and central interior. Patchy rain extending eastwards to the southeast and central coasts during the day, with some local thunder possible east of the Great Dividing Range. A weak SW'ly wind change should move across the state's interior during the day. Cooler and drier across the interior with light to moderate S to SW winds. Light to moderate SE to NE winds about the eastern districts. Dangerous surf conditions gradually easing about the central and southeast coasts. Forecast for Wednesday A high over South Australia should push dry air further north into Queensland, leaving the state fine except for some isolated showers about the northeast coast. Daytime temperatures should be at least 5 degrees below average over the southern half of the state, and at or just below average elsewhere. Strong SE winds developing over southern Gulf waters in the morning. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday By Thursday, winds should increase about the east coast, and should be at least fresh over the northeast and southeast waters. Showers gradually increasing along the east coast, but remaining fine over the interior until Saturday, where some isolated showers may form about the southeast and central interior. Temperatures below average across the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
