Weather Situation
A large high [1034 hPa] near New Zealand extends a ridge along the east
Queensland coast. A low near New Caledonia is expected to stay well offshore,
but will continue to produce elevated sea swell heights about the southern and
central coasts until late Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Fine most of the state except for some isolated showers about the exposed
parts of the east coast, and also over the Peninsula district. Increasing high
cloud in the SW of the state but no rain. Mainly light and variable winds over
the interior, with moderate to fresh SE winds about the east coast. Dangerous
surf conditions about the exposed parts of the central coast, and also over the
southeast coast.
Forecast for Monday
A new upper level trough will reach the western border and generate patchy
rain over the Channel Country and the southern interior. Fine over the rest of
the state except for some isolated showers about the northeast coast. The low
will remain well offshore in the Tasman Sea, but will continue to produce
dangerous surf along the southern and central coasts. Light to moderate SE to SW
winds, fresh at times about the northeast coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper level trough will move over the southeast interior, allowing
conditions in the Channel Country to clear but producing patchy rain over the
southern and central interior. Patchy rain extending eastwards to the southeast
and central coasts during the day, with some local thunder possible east of the
Great Dividing Range.
A weak SW'ly wind change should move across the state's interior during the day.
Cooler and drier across the interior with light to moderate S to SW winds.
Light to moderate SE to NE winds about the eastern districts. Dangerous surf
conditions gradually easing about the central and southeast coasts.
Forecast for Wednesday
A high over South Australia should push dry air further north into
Queensland, leaving the state fine except for some isolated showers about the
northeast coast. Daytime temperatures should be at least 5 degrees below
average over the southern half of the state, and at or just below average
elsewhere. Strong SE winds developing over southern Gulf waters in the
morning.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
By Thursday, winds should increase about the east coast, and should be at
least fresh over the northeast and southeast waters. Showers gradually
increasing along the east coast, but remaining fine over the interior until
Saturday, where some isolated showers may form about the southeast and central
interior. Temperatures below average across the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
