MELBOURNE - Apr 30/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning has been issued coastal waters between Cape Moreton and Point Danger for Sunday. Flood warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A large high [1034 hPa] near New Zealand extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A deepening low occurs near New Caledonia and is expected to move further south over the next few days. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Isolated showers generally over the SE region this afternoon and evening with isolated thunderstorms near the Southern Border Rangers. Fine over the remainder of Queensland apart from isolated showers about the NE tropics. Dangerous surf conditions about the Fraser coast and southeast coast. Moderate to fresh SE winds about most of the east coast. Light to moderate E/SE winds over the Gulf and through the interior. Forecast for Sunday The surface low will continue deepening as it moves south into the Tasman Sea. S'ly winds will reach strong wind force along the SE coast. Fine over the interior and the SE, increasing high cloud in the SW of the state but no rain. Isolated showers continuing in the NE tropical coast and extending further south to the central coast. Forecast for Monday A new upper level trough will reach the western border and generate patchy rain over western districts. High cloud ahead of this system will reach the interior and the Darling Downs later in the day. A surface trough or wind change will also move through western districts. The low will move further south over the Tasman Sea, with swells gradually abating and dangerous surf conditions slowly easing along the southern Queensland coast. The upper level trough will move through the far west overnight. No change over the remainder of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The upper level trough will approach eastern QLD with clearing weather in the west. Patchy rain and local thunder contracting into eastern districts during the day. The surface SW'ly wind change reaching the SE coast in the afternoon and the Capricorn coast in the evening. Cooler and drier across the interior with SW/S winds. Forecast for Wednesday The coastal trough now heading north along the central coast and reaching the southern tropics later in the day. Strong SE winds developing over southern Gulf waters in the morning. Showers now confined to the NE tropics, dry and cooler over the remainder of the state. Some early drizzle may occur on the western slopes of the southern Darling Downs in the morning. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday By Thursday, winds shifting S'ly about the SE and Capricorn coasts and freshen to strong wind force as coastal showers develop. Dry over the interior. By Friday, showers and strong winds about most of the east coast. By Saturday, winds easing about the east coast as isolated showers develop inland over the eastern interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Sunday.
